You'd be a fool if you thought the Palestinians only have rocks to throw. Believe me, they have tanks and other weapons at their disposal that they don't choose to use in order to make the Israelies look bad.

My recommendation is that Israel begin assasinating any member as hamas or islamic jihad... issue an official declaration stating that Hamas and Islamic Jihad is now considered a legitimate military adversary, and declare war on this entity.
>>

Heh, great platypus think alike
I think Israel has started to do that to some extent. They've targetted Arafat's Elite 9 guard(or whatever they're called) that said to have strong ties with Hamas. They've also attacked Palestine's military/police post, althought they did bombard some civilian encampment as well..
I'm sure they could do that. MOSSAD is one of the best in the world, maybe even better than CIA. But I'm worried about the retribution. Unless they can wipe out a good amount of HAMAS member to destroy their chain of command, there's gonna be equal amount of Israelis dying by the extremist's hand.

What is the general views on both sides anyway? Do they realize that peace and co-existence is the only way out, or they're ready to annihilate each other?

Platypuses are the coolest animals on earth!

Well the view used to be that peaceful coexistance is the only secure existance... but now many people are begining to feel that there is no such thing as a secure existance... and therefore are addressing the issue from the pin hole perspective of security at all costs.

Thats the israeli view.... and this view has spread because of the suicide bombings more than anything else... the Tel Aviv bombing made alot of extremists, and swayed even the most peacful minded people to violent anger.

The Palestinian view is that of desperation... the people are protesting the occupation, while the military wings of Hamas and Islamic Jihad is using these protests to further their ideas of the destruction of Israel in it's entirety. Overall I suspect that most Palestinians don't desire this end, but are willing to use the means of these extremists to achieve their more moderate goals.

pretty messy...

Israel released a list of names of over 300 operatives of the Hamas and Islamic Jihad... And FYI Arafats people are "Force 17"...

Polm: They can indeed.... but they need to make it "just" in the eyes of the US first...

Make no bones about it... what's holding back the Israelis right now is nothing more than US approval...

I think there is a simple solution to this problem. Isreal needs to equip all their tanks with bulldozers, mine sweepers, flame throwers. Now they just need a simple slogan.

How about, "You throw a rock we take a block", for every rock thrown .....they take out a block of prime real estate. Level it comepletely. Then the Arabs will calm down esp as they they their "country" disappearing block by block.

The US should give full and open aid to Isreal. Stop this "peace process" nonsence. Give them all the weapons they need to take back THEIR contry. Give the refuge problem to Egypt, or Jordan or whoever. They have shown they can no live there in peace, Isreal has bent over backwards. Time to clean up the problem. The military is the only way now.

Cepak:
Palestinians have weapons too, thats why I said the war going to be costly for Israelis. But they would more than likely wipe out the entire Palestinian's forces in a few days if they go all out (and I really mean all-out, destroy all civilians building used by for guerilla warfare, 24hr of constant bombardment, etc). This is the same military that withstands the combine attack of Syria,Egypt & Jordania, and both Syria & Egypt has respectable armed forces at the time (Jordanian's army probably just cannon fodder), while taking over the Golan Heights and good chunk of Egyptian's teritory as well. I don't think Arafat is that stupid not to realize this.
I'm sorry but Jihad & Intifada war-cry meant nothing if you get pummelled by Apaches & other Gunship.

Doboji:
Then US should've not reign the Israelis back, we don't have any right to tell people what to do. Let them settle their own dispute. US has suffer too much terrorist attack due to its perceived strong ties with Israelis. Israel is strong enough to fend for themselves.
Honestly, besides Egypt+Syria, I don't think there's a strong enough army in the entire Arab World to challenge them. Iraq's forces are in the state of rumble, and a era of modernization is sweeping Iran under Khatami, I doubt he would be willing to go to war against Israel just for the Palestinian. Libya is too far away, and the rich Arab nation doesn't really care what happen in Palestine (thats just sad and so wrong... being abandoned by your own people...)

I sure hope cooler head & peace will prevail, but judging from where this is going, more bloodshed in the future is very likely.

I have some strong opinions about all of this middle east conflict.First of all, the area before 1948 was called Palestine. To the best of my knowledge, as was ratified in the United Nations;the land was given to the Jews as they claimed it as their ancestral home.

Now, I have heard, that the Arabic peoples were supposed to go to Jordan to live.Didn't happen.

If there is no longer a nation called Palestine, then both Jews and Arabs could call themselves "Palestinians".That would be an insult to the Jews.I believe that is precisely why the Arabs insist on being addressed as "Palestinians".

Israel is surrounded on all sides by Arabic nations. The religious implications:Both the Judaic and Christian faiths call the city of Jerusalem their #1 holiest sites.

What do the Arabic people call Jerusalem? Their 3rd. holiest site.I believe "Mecca" (in Egypt?) is their 1st. "Holiest site".I have no idea what their 2nd holiest site is.

So I figure, ya wanna be by the holiest site, not a 3rd. rate holy site.

So:Give the religious argument to the Jews and Christians. The Arabs can do better.

Next:Since Israel is surrounded by Arabic nations, let the Jews come up with a plan to migrate Arabs to Arabic Countries. The plan could be administered by the U.N...Give 1000 families a month fair market price for their land, let 'em take their possesions, move 'em to Arabic Nations.

What is left out of this scenario is the human element.I believe that hatred runs so deep in the Middle East, that even if the Jews were in agreement with such a plan, the Arabs would reject it.I think they'd rather fight than pursue peace.

Remember that the West Bank and Gaza are not part of Israel, and under United Nations resolutions (I will post them later if you like, can't remember them off the top of my head) dating back to 1967 must be returned unconditionally to Jordan. No map ever printed has them outlined as part of Israel.

Any Israeli civilian that is killed is a crime, and those that kill Israeli civillians must be punished. However any Israeli soldier that is in the occupied territories is a fair target.

I don't have any allegience to either side, but I heard that from a Palestinian born and brought up in the West Bank under Israeli occupation. It does sound reasonable.

Well....The West Bank and Gaza Strip are strategic military oversight points. The nation of Israel were constantly bombarded from these areas prior to the 1967 and 1973 wars.

Mind you,the arabic nations(to the best of my recollection) have started EVERY WAR.They have lost every battle, except the stalemate in Beruit.

Now why would a nation provoked into war, and winning valuable security zones, give them back to the enemy? That would be a very foolish thing to do, indeed.

The United Nations may not recognize the West Bank and Gaza Strip as legitimate parts of the nation of Israel.Might this be due to the fact that arab nations(with UN Delegates)surround Israel?

Let's see, there's Jordan,Lebanon,Egypt,Saudi Arabia,Kuwait,Syria...the list goes on and on.

Israel has these allies:The United States.A bit of an imbalance,I'd say.

It is a fact that every war started in the middle east was started by arabic countries. It is also a fact that they lose, every time. The "P.L.O." has as part of it's charter the complete and total destruction of the government of Israel.

And you say that it's OK for 'palestinians'to attack Israeli soldiers when they are in 'the occupied territories'.Hogwash,The arabs started the wars, they lost, the Israeli's won, took over the territories, and have every right to annex those lands.

By the way,I cannot find a place on my latest maps of the middle east called palestine.Apparently, when the United Nations granted the Jews their ancestral homeland, it ceased being called palestine.

It is my understanding that the arabic peoples displaced in this creation of a new nation in 1948, were to be sent to Jordon, or maybe other arabic nations. They didn't go.

I submit that the arabs are no more palestinians than the jews. They all live in Israel, now.

Millions of Americans originated from England. I guess we should take it over because it is their ancestral land.

peace talks are going to resume soon. contacts between security officials have begun again. i would trust this regime over the last to make sober concessions based on isreali security first rather than bend to violence and rioting the palestinians rely on to sway political opinion.

If Isreal really wants the Palestinians clamp down on their terrorists, they could set a good example by bringing some of their own murdering war criminals, like Arial Sharon, to trial.

if you ask any hamas or jihad basketcase, not only is sharon a war criminal but so is every
jewish isreali, young or old, dead or alive. the palestinians ultimate plan is not a fair
peace redistribution of land, but to wittle the isreali position into more concessions
until they are somehow able to mount an offensive to sweep the jewish people into
oblivion. that is not my personal opinion alone, but also of henry kissinger, who
reveals many scary details in his recent book. he has been privy to many personal
exchanges with high ranking palestinian officials. people in the know are well aware
of the large cache of military grade weaponry the palestinian authority has purchased
since signing the oslo accords. and in direct violation of those accords, the palestinian
authority has far surpassed the number of security personnel allowed under mutual
agreement. as arafat has recently demonstrated he still maintains enough sway over
the extremist elements to control them like a tap, turning them loose when he feels
his position is slipping or holding them back when his gambits fail.

Any alleged "faith" that uses its own dogma to try to justify its inhumanity toward others is not worthy of the name, let alone the belief. :|
