Should it be pressing down this hard?

Hi, I'm building my first computer and I'm currently putting the cpu in and when I was lowering the retainer I noticed when pressing down on the lever it seems to be pressing WAY too hard and seems like something might possibly break/crack. Any reason to this or solution or is this normal?

Normal force,,,,, Make sure your HSF is installed properly. What temps are you getting ?

I dont know what you wanna know here. solution ? so you broke it ? or it worked but was extra resistant ?

What CPU / Socket?

Make 100% sure that you put the CPU in correctly, then read on:

Personally I'm always a little scared too when pressing down the lever on intel sockets (1156/1155). It does take an astonishing amount of force, a lto more than one would expect especially considering the lever looks kind of "flimsy".

I have an Intel i5-2500K and the socket is LGA1155. I researched to make sure everything would fit, work together or whatever and I know I'm putting it in correctly. Just it seems like too much force. I watched that newegg video showing how to build a computer and install everything correctly and it seemd like when he put his in it gave little resistance when putting down the lever.

The only thing to check is the two little notches on the side of the processor and that they line up with the little piece in the socket that is to fit in them. If you have these lined up then there is going to be a good bit of force to close the socket.

You have taken the plastic cap out of the retainer haven't you? If so it will be fine, they can make very small cracking noises the first time you bed a CPU down, this can be very disconcerting the first time you build a PC.

Yea I took the plastic cap out. I talked to my friend who recently built his first computer and he told me his took quite a bit of force too, to the point where he thought he broke something

-needed 2 thumps on the lever of my old 1366\920 D0 ,could see\feel the lever flex\bend under the pressure , along with the cracking sounds. I did do a triple check inserting the cpu ,even centered it under light pressure before the final all or nothing lol. first boot is always the best part of a new build , it's alive ,it's alive.

-last month gave it to my buds son and it's still gaming fine after all those years @ 4.2.
