As mentioned earlier in this thread, consolidation in any industry almost always results in higher prices.Here in Vegas I have an Albertsons and a Smiths (a Kroger company) a mile from each other. Albertsons is more expensive. If they get bought by Kroger I wonder 2 things.
1. What will happen to prices?
2. Will both stay open?
