Should people that have driven 15+ years and never gotten in a accident be able to drive 5 mph over the limit?

Unless in restricted zones, like construction? I think if you have driven at least 15 years and never been in a accident you should be able to drive 5 miles per hour over the limit except in certain conditions, like snow, rain, construction zones, neighborhoods. And if you have driven 30 years and never been in a car accident you should be able to drive 10 miles per hour over the limit? Get a special license plate to.

How the hell do you come up with your math...the numbers and such?

OK.

Should people that have NEVER had more than 15 items in their shopping cart while standing in the Express Lane at the grocery store be allowed privalaged access to the cashier?

Heh, can we get response from drivers that have driven at least 15 years and never been in a accident?

If someone has the skill to avoid accidents for 30 years why not reward safe drivers? Basically talking highways and stuff since there would be a lot of restrictions.

well, first off...i live in jersey which means we all always drive 5-10 miles over the limit...
so...the numbers would begin to get absurd after a lot of "good driving"
but also
it would make very little sense to allow a potentially large percentage of drivers on the road to be legally allowed to drive considerably faster than the rest of them. it seems like its just asking for more accidents.

it occurs to me that some drivers may have no desire to go 5-10 miles over the speed limit. especially those with the arbitrary requirement of 15 years accident free...

sure.

then i can start my underground, internet-based license plate stamping business

btw, i don't think it's a great idea. safe drivers should be rewarded with lower insurance rates.

Requirement would be to never have been in a accident. The other requirement would be like 15 years driving minimum.

No. Much faster. I already drive much faster than that and I've only been accident free for 9

Being able to avoid an accident is part skill and part dumb luck.

I ride motorcycles as well as drive a car (truck). So my skills and perception of my surrounds is a little sharper than the average driver, IMHO.

That said, I've been involved in THREE no fault accidents in the past ten years.

1. Guy ran a stop sign, I plowed into his passenger door. Not my fault.

2. Guy backed out of a parking spot at about 50mph, rammed my drivers door - not my fault

3. Lady ran a light, hit my rear bumper - not my fault

In the first two, I had no idea what was about to happen...didn't see squat. The last one I TRIED to speed up...not fast enough.

So just b/c you have/have not been in an accident is not necessarily a reflection of your skill behind the wheel. Insurance companies don't see itthat way, though.

I've been driving for 40 years without an accident and only 3 moving violations, the last of which was 20 years ago. I'm not sure if it's skill, luck or being cop savvy.

no, you still cant control what other people do and how they drive no matter how good of a driver you are.

1. You mean you can't already drive 5mph over the speed limit with absolutely no fear of a speeding ticket?

2. Uhh, just exactly how are the police going to know if the driver applies to this rule. Your license plate idea is a start, but unless we weld them to the back of each individual, it hardly identifies the driver. Only the car. (ex. If I had the plate, and my wife was driving my car, or my son...)

I don't know where you live, but here EVERYONE can drive 10 over the limit. Actually, everyone can drive 20 over the limit. You start to run a risk of getting a ticket at about 25 over around here.

BTW, I'm talking about Northern California freeways.

Where do you live that people don't automatically drive 10 mph over the speed limit? Your idea would also be difficult to enforce. How is a cop with radar supposed to determine whether someone is speeding or doing their permitted speed? Rain, snow, and neighborhoods might also be more difficult to define than they first appear to be.

no, they should be able to kill 2 more people than civilians during peace-time.
(during wartime, all bets are off, regardless of their status)

You don't get stopped for doing 5 over regardless of who you are and what your record is, unless its the end of the month.

Most cops in Stl won't bother to nail you for 10 over, either.

So, my answer is: Yes, and they are already allowed to, along with every other person on the road.
