Most of you are probably too young to remember Lewis Alcindor to understand what I am trying to say.

Well, I am looking forward to seeing that new Chinesse dude destroying O'Neal.

Yea, that Shaq, what a horrible thing he's been for the Lakers

And yes, 90% of us remember Kareem Abdul Jabbar. You don't have to get all "calling him by his original name" cool on us.

And on the third point, Yao Ming is in for a huge surprise when he faces Shaq for the first time, I guarantee he won't be the one doing the destroying. I've seen the guy, and he's no Shaq destroyer.

one it wouldnt work under the salary cap, unless we traded for garnett. a good trade in a few years imho. but the pacers would never trade all that for him, that would be just stupid. and they'd take on fox and fisher (8 million in salary) ahhaa yeayh right

in a few years you wouldn't be able to get garnett for shaq. shaq would be on the downside
of his physical prime while garnett would be in the midst of his.

even if its possible now, i still would not trade shaq for garnett because minnesota does not
have the talent to match. indiana does. at the very least you would need to replace o'neal at
center, and who better, hypothetically, than jermaine o'neal, the best young center in the nba.

the new defensive changes may have done more the stifle shaq's effectiveness than any
assumed imjury. his play in the third quarter the other night did not show much sign of
debilitating pain. it was more indicative of his frustration with the endless zoning. garnett
too suffered in the same way as shaq; he was smothered by triple teams, forced a number
of shots, and never solved the riddle.

seeing the math and all the convoluted mumbo jumbo regarding the salary cap and collective
bargaining agreement takes all the fun out of these fantasy trades. :frown:

haha...

syzygy... you must be on drugs or a huge fan of pacers... or both.

if you want that sort of improvements with pacers...
that's what PC/Console games are for. most of them will allow this sort of fartless jokes.

in all seriousness...
you don't trade O'neal... not even when he wants to be traded.

bring back this argument when he's 38.

as much as i hate lakers... this ain't happening.

The only way Shaq will get traded is if he clash with Kobe for the no.1 player in the team title. That aint happening now since Lakers keep winning and everyone is happy, and probably wouldn't happen as long as Phil is the coach. He does a decent job keeping those big ego in check.

Trade Shaq? What are you smoking and why aren't you sharing? Puff, puff, give!

Shaq is still the most dominate center in the paint right now -- no one can deny that. Sure, he's 30, but he has a few years left, even with his nagging injuries. If you look at his performance this year, he doesn't look great, but he still is so good, no one can really guard against him very effectively. Trading Shaq won't happen also because of his salary, its a pretty good bet he'll be in a Laker uniform until he retires.

There are other Lakers that easily could go, but definitely not Shaq.

i'm a die hard iverson fan.

if i'm the GM of Lakers...
i would not want to give up shaq for iverson.

i've argued many times here... that iverson and shaq are the only two unguardable players in the league right now.
that being said... i'm not taking any thing away from iverson...
it just that the next best shooting guard isn't as far back as the next best center.

after shaq... there really is a great drop for the next best "real" center.

Until I start seeing some significant signs that Shaq is slowing down, I wouldn't even be thinking trade.

Maybe in 6 years or so, but definitely not now. Of course, I'm assuming that Shaq recovers from the majority of his injuries this summer, which may not happen, and which may hamper him for the rest of his career.

actually... i would become a huge laker fan again if a trade like the one your proprosed with the pacers happened...

doesn't have anything to do with dominance or who would get the better end of the deal-- just my personal preference for the players involved. i was a huge laker fan when magic was the captain and i love the fast break lakers.

the kind of basketball where you dump the ball into the big guy (who is far bigger than the second biggest person in the league) and watch him lay it in on somebody half his size isn't that exciting to me.

syzygy - Do you know anything about basketball? First of all, Jermaine O'neal isn't the 2nd best center in the league. He was never a true center. His true position is PF. Why do you think Pacers traded for Brad Miller? So that Miller could play center and move O'neal to PF. So you want to trade a center for a PF? Also, Fox plays better defense than Tinsley AND Bender combined. I understand that Fisher does suck and takes too many shots, but come on, trade him for someone worthwhile.

Or they could just make it easier and start calling the Lakers the Timberwolves and the Timberwolves the Lakers.

lol...

Now about Yao Ming. China's basketball league is much less physical than the NBA. Just cause you dominate in another league, you won't immediately dominate in a new league. Most likely the Rockets will draft Yao Ming and try to ride him like they did Hakeem. But it'll take more than a few years for him to develop into a NBA player.

What I want to see is Stockton for a 1 year deal on the Lakers just so Stockton can win a championship before he retires. You know, sort of what Mitch Richmond is doing. Riding a good team for one year just to get a championship. He would start of course, but be able to play limited minutes on the Lakers whereas on the Jazz, he's necessary for a win.

OH YEAH, GO LAKERS!! TWO IN A ROW!! GAME 6 FIRST and THEN GAME 7!!

Forget it, I highly doubt he'd do such a thing; unlike most "frontrunners" today, he'll go down w/Karl as the best one-two combo who'll never hold a ring.
