Maybe try making some sense first, why even mention Russia when they have zero ability or desire to do so? I also don’t think China “knows” what you think they know. If they did they wouldn’t be amassing the ability to conduct a massive amphibious operation.
Russia in 2018 had approximately around 7K nuclear arsenals, according to the BBC. I would not consider that zero ability.

Do you support the use of military force to defend Taiwan?

Do you like cars?
Do you like refrigerators?
Do you like air conditioners?
Do you like heaters?
Do you like computers?

All of those things are made using parts from Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company. Covid-19 showed us TSMC is the only supplier for those parts, and without them we cannot build or repair cars, refrigerators, ACs, heaters, computers, and etc.

So the question really is:
Do you want to defend Taiwan?
or
Do you want to live in abject poverty while groveling pathetically before his radiance Winnie the Pooh? Begging for your children sustenance as your pain racked flea bitten yellow belly excuse of an existence withers away?

oh, and fyi, Winnie the Pooh's standard policy is going to be to sterilize your cowardly ass:

So the options really are Defend Taiwan or bend over and let Winne the Pooh snip your balls off.

I've begun to wonder how much oppression, coercion, mis-information, 'education' is applied by the Taiwan government (which is not officially recognized by many countries) to keep the populace from wanting to re-unify with China.

Can't re-unify if you were never unified to begin with. Reminder: the CCP has never ruled the island of Taiwan. But after how the CCP treats Uighurs, Falun Gong and people in Hong Kong, you think Taipei has to do anything to convince people (who identify overwhelmingly as Taiwanese) that being invaded by an authoritarian regime is bad?

Hahaha oh dear. I don't think I can read any of your posts the same ever again.

Probably about 1% of what China does to Taiwan and their people. Wake up please.

The only non-economic fear U.S. would have of Taiwan being taken over by China, would be the safety of Hawaii.

False. And Guam would be hit before Hawaii, pretty sure Beijing considers Naval Base Guam and Anderson priority targets.

You don't know if you should not trust the Chinese regime? Just take a look at what happened in Hong Kong after that new security law was implemented.

Not sure what your reply has to do with the comment you quote. You seem to be replying to some other comment entirely.

LoL you don't know shit. Locals have no interest in unification. The ones that want reunification are descendants of the KMT that retreated to Taiwan with Chiang Kai Shek.

Those fuckers can just pick up and move to China.

Unless China has a Russia Today or Fox News clone inside TW to push its bullshit, I'd wager that perhaps only a select few wants that. Separation of powers, rule of law, or be like -> https://www.sportbible.com/tennis/a...ishes-after-sexual-abuse-allegations-20211114

Being a relatively free democracy Taiwan does have pro-PRC media, and despite this the vast majority of Taiwanese do not support any kind of reunification.

Just how close do you think Taiwan is to Hawaii? Have you considered investing in a map?
Well... I was thinking about Alaska, and it's oil reserves, it being more closer to China.... but then again.... wouldn't China then also have to face Russia? Furthermore, China loves islands.
Dongshan County = bunch of islands in the Taiwan straight
Hong Kong = Island
Taiwan = Island

I think you want to do a little more thinking about a lot of things.

This has been a good thread so far, lots of productive posts for and against the military defense of Taiwan. Thanks for the thoughtful input.

Yes, democratic countries should definitely defend other democracies from totalitarian ones.

There isn’t need to generally go to war with the PRC to defend Taiwan, they’re pretty capable themselves and Air/Naval assets could help them hold off an invasion pretty cheaply. I would hope that Japan, Australia, Canada, South Korea, and other able countries would join in.
LMAO, when have we ever cared about democracy elsewhere? We forcefully overthrow democratically elected leaders because they weren't the right democratically elected ones.

.... Taiwan to Hawaii 8492 km.
Taiwan to Alaska 7622 km.

Siberia is a much better target.

Im not saying I would like to see Taiwan disappear, that benefits no one. I would also like to see TSMC diversify production into America so as to keep a multi channel supply chain:

Sad truth is that we’ve been using Chinese slave labour for decades, now China has risen and demands what it thinks is its right. This comes down to a square off of ideologies. A CPC “regime” vs. Western democracies. We tell ourselves that we’re good righteous people… but common, look at the supply chain our lifestyles are depended on.
At the end of the day, without tech superiority no military superiority, no military superiority learn to speak mandarin.
It *is* coming to a stand off.
You are confounding the will of the state(CCP) versus the opinions of the individual sheep who have no power and are watched and prodded tightly in all aspects of their lives in and out of the house.
The CCP has not changed in nature substantially since its inception. What they do is what they want, and locals do not matter. The CCP does not give a shit about the individuals it "serves" and never has.

No need for West guilt either. The place was a real famine dump when they were trying to do it Mao's way. My mom and grandmother lived it. That's how I even have come into existence. People desperately wanted out pre-Deng Xiaoping reforms. If one could land in Hong Kong(my aunt) or get into the U.S(my mom through connections established in New York via relatives), that was a golden ticket then.

Nor is there one homegeouns Chinese identity. Locality matters a lot, since before the CCP decided to nationalize the culture, every locale came with its own language(it's called dialects in books but really, it's like an English speaker trying to understand Spanish, Italian, etc) and the tribalism that comes with it.
