Should the US newspapers publish those cartoons about Muhammed?

I am starting to think that we should. There are several reasons for publishing those cartoons. One of them is to show solidarity with Denmark, which is being bullied by the muslim mobs and governments around the world. Its embassies are being torched. Its flags are being burned.

This is the reason why other countries around Europe started doing the same thing. They published these cartoons to show their support for Denmark. To show support for that newspaper's right to freedom of speech. It is a great thing that the Europeans are not backing down from these people. I am a bit surprised.

We need to stand up for Denmark and other European countries and defend freedom of speech. The radical muslims are gathering support and rallying, we should be doing the same. We need to rally behind Europe.

Yeah, we should.

Enough of these terrorists attempting to cow the rest of the world into what they want. Islam is not anymore special than any other belief or opinion, and should not be treated specially by newspapers.

Especially because of the Muslim death threats. They should be confronted and challenged - backing away and pissing yourself is only going to embolden them.

Sure, why not? As Taejin has already pointed out, why should Islam, or any religion for that matter, get special treatment?

Interesting how the so-called free speech people here who bash Christianity night and day are suddenly opposed to free speech of this kind. I guess the standards aren't the same.

I mean, it is you guys who constantly whine about how Europe is superior and how we are the bad guys. How the Europeans were right on all these issues. When an issue as important as this one comes up, and when Europe desperately needs an ally, you guys want us to sit on the sidelines. Make up your mind, will ya?

But most here are supportive of Europe's stance and display a fair viewpoint.

I think it's almost necessary. I mean, you can't report the news without giving it context, and the cartoons provide the needed context to this story. I don't think they should be published in a "Here they are you evil people, what are you gonna do about it?" fashion, rather a "Here's the cartoons that pissed everyone off" fashion. Assuming there's a difference between the two.

I?ll have to just chime in with "let freedom ring". Papers should do what they want. Though I'm sure certain forces would love to abort their free press whenever they disagree with it.

slash, in the other thread wasn't it you who said that we should respect the Muslims around the world and not publish them, because it's already offensive? You can certainly report about the cartoons without showing them. It happens with most reports on murders, you don't need to see the body to understand the context.

Why would they be printing them? Just to fan the flames?

Anyways, would it really be worth taunting the protesters if it puts our boys abroad in harms way? Remember, most of the violent protests are occurring in targets inside certain Islamic nations, like Afghanistan and Iran. Violence might escalate in Iraq too. Not worth it IMO.
