Yep. But that doesn't mean there weren't any at sub-$250. Those happen occasionally when another reseller tries to break the price, or in this case, when Apple suddenly offered refurbished for $350.

luck is more i like it; I see about 15 falling within the 200-250 range in the past week, ~400 falling in the 250-350 range.

That's because Apple was quickly running out of stock on the lowest-end model, and between paying $300 for a 16GB version or $350 for a 32GB version where Apple can only offer a 64GB version for $530, buyers don't really have much of a choice.

But when it's $300 buyer versus $350 Apple and with a whole year of warranty, it's a much easier buy.

I'm fairly certain we'll see it drop more as more people convert to iPad 2 by trading in their original iPad.

don't care about cause only care about effect: neigh impossible to get an iPad for < 300 on eBay unless you're constantly on it OR lucky.

I agree with the bolded part however.

possible MILD price drop as people who are buying 5+ 16gb iPads from VZW unload on eBay.

Yeah, but then again, if you are looking for something that offers good value for money, and the iPad 1 is not available, then obviously... Nook Color is your next best bet.

I myself have to admit that the Nook Color does offer a lot of bang for your buck right now, and it's true that even if $350 were to become the norm for iPad prices, it'll still be a hard sale to those looking for the absolute budget tablet that is still remotely useful.

And if someone is already juggling between a Nook Color and an iPad, I suspect that someone is already knowledgeable enough about the possibilities of both, so the "average consumer" rule won't apply.

I'm just concerned about the effect of time as the value of other devices start falling down and then hit rock bottom. Just like with Android phones, when a next generation comes, the last generation will hit $150 eventually in just a couple of months.

well the journey has ended for me.

32gb ipad1 from VZW, 440 out the door.

Checked out the wifi XOOM while I was at it. Definitely feels choppier than iPad but at the same time I could see the potential.

potential is always dangerous... it's like a never-ending quest to achieve perfection, that will never exist. They should've done it right the FIRST time!

Yup. Just installed the stable version this morning. Can't wait to see what Anand has to say about it. IF he reviews one....

I'd be shocked if he bothered. He doesn't review products based on what 3rd party hacks can do, he reviews based on retail alone. And it's usually focused on hardware so what the (unofficial) software can do isn't generally his bag.

I'm posting from my CM7 Nook. Really liking it so far.

I might need to try dual-booting. I want CM7 on my nook.. I do I do.
But dammit I want to keep my magazine subscriptions. I'm not a fan of physical magazines much anymore, and the magazines I have on nook are perfect copies (unlike some of the major players that offer reduced magazines at full price, or even more expensive than a print magazine. ridiculous).

Main problem: can't load nookColor magazines on any device other than a nookColor. Nook for Android doesn't support magazines, and so far it appears nobody has hacked that feature out of the closed-source nookColor apps, or hacked those apps to run in a different environment.

That is why I didn't even give the default Nook program a chance, I didn't want it to sink its teeth in.

I understand your frustration though. At least you should get an official Froyo build sometime this month.

Found somebody selling his Nook Color on craigslist. It's used and I'm hoping he needs to sell quick and takes my offer

now i'm thinking about it... i don't think anand will review it... mainly because nobody offers the nook rooted with CM7... If somebody sold Nook Color with CM7 and send him a reviewable unit, then I can see him reviewing it. Otherwise, hacking is up to the user, not forced onto...

Just remember how fervent those nerds got when they used an OC'd unit in a review :\.

I agree. If you're going to start throwing out reviews of the Nook Color hacked into a tablet, why not skip reviewing stock devices all together? Throw Bionix-V on a Vibrant and review it, flash CM7 on a DesireHD and review it, etc, etc.

Just doesn't make sense to "review" a device that's been bent, folded and mutilated by a development community into something completely different from what it was shipped as.

It makes a little sense when the end result of that community molding means that a previously boring device is moved into another product category completely in which it is very competitive. Especially when that product category is very hot with tons of interest but few decent low-cost options.

Plus I have seen many reviews (not at Anand) with a little bit of overclocking involved, which is basically the same concept.

While I'm not sure this review would be up Anand's alley, does he not regularly review hardware running lots of different software that did not come with the device? Reviewing a piece of hardware running non default software is something Anand does all the time, just too many people want to place ultra portable devices in some sort of different category for whatever reason.

If you buy the Nook Color as a piece of hardware you intend to insall an OS on, then reviewing it as such makes perfect sense in that context. We do this with PC hardware all the time, no reason we shouldn't give portable devices the same consideration.

What's the size of the battery? Also is the screen glass like the iPad or does it have some anti-reflective coating?
