Should we install SP2

Hi.
There's rumour that SP2 has some compatibility issues, and some other problems.
Do you think it is the right time to upgrade to SP2?

You can wait and see what pops up, or you can install it now. I haven't heard of any compatibility issues I thought were serious.

Because I've heard a large company IBM told iits employees not to install SP2 now.
That's why I'm worrying.

I'd be willing to bet that they have a stockpile of legacy applications.

IBM advised their employees not to install SP2 because many of their old legacy programs would probably go nuts after SP2 modifies the systems. So far the two main concerns I have is with daemon tools and the TCP/IP limit. I installed it on an old laptop, and the daemon tools have been working fine, but I haven't tried out the TCP/IP limit, for which there is a modification out for...

I havent had any problems with daemon tools using the RTM release. With the RCs I had to reinstall daemon tools but it still worked fine.

I loaded SP2 on my laptop and desktop. No problems so far, seems to run pretty smooth.

SP2 is working great on both my PCs,I don`t see what all the fuss is about .

So far so good here. Running it at home and on my workstation at work. There are some known issues with SMS 2.0/2003 but other than that it seems to be working great.

This is true according to an article that I read on this issue. IBM has some older applications that won't won't play well with SP2...hence the hold order on installing it.

In a corporate environment, you don't roll out service packs the instant they come out. You test it with your applications to make sure you don't break anything. That doesn't mean you shouldn't install it on your home PC.

my it guy at work says you can just install all of the individual updates and you dont need a servive pack.

It is my understanding that Service packs include all previous "updates" in addition to features not availabe via any updates. So it both compacts all the previous upgrades into one download *and* offers new features.

I installed it last night on a Dell Inspirion with Office 2003, Norton Anti-Virus and a few other apps. Thought it was excellent, love the new Firewall features. Everything works fine (although I thought it would as we've been using the RC2 at work for several weeks in a test environment).

why not just set a system restore point first? would that not work to undo things if it wasnt working too well?

Upgrade went well for me at home and on about 12 computers at work.
Make sure you DEFRAG drive after the install...it scatters files all over the partition.

Install went well. Uninstall works well also...had to try it. Didnt need to reactivate windows.

it has messed up my system, now it logs on ooooooooo so slowly, i uninstalled it and it still has the prob, and it developed after it did the restart for installing it successfully, i wouldn't advise it
