Well, the quicklaunch bar is much more space-saving, and a single click will open said shortcut without as much trouble. This is what I use, if you scroll up to one of the early posts you will see mine. The desktop icons to me aren't just inefficient and more difficult to use (especially when running other apps!), they are ugly.

The whole idea that that is the only way to easily have shortcuts to items is just untrue.

However, to each their own!

Actually, most everything of mine is just about as neat as my desktop - when I am able to keep it that way. Having a pretty bad disability (which was misdiagnosed until just a month ago) some days I could barely pull myself out of bed, and those days everything just kinda showed that... I cleaned when I could so I compensated for this inability in my computer desktop.
