I think it's amazing when someone talks about having 200+ DVDs in their collection. That's a ton of money, especially when most towns have a Blockbuster or other rental stores around. I'm going out on a limb here, but I'm guessing you have at least 30 DVDs which you've seen twice or less. Probably some you've never watched.

I'm not knocking you, just commenting that I don't understand it and find it somewhat fascinating. To each their own.

Every movie I have i've seen at least twice and wouldn't consider it otherwise. I mean that and some movies are sentimental favorites that you enjoyed as a kid. I don't have 200 DVDs but between my soon to be roommate and I we'll have like 270...a lot of duplicates

I think I'm just cheap. If there's a movie I want to see, I can call around town and rent it somewhere. Odds of me watching a movie twice is low. Odds of me buying a DVD and watching it multiple times is also very low. Thus, I just rent a movie when I want to see something.

I figure I need to watch a movie 2 or 3 times to get my money's worth. So, assuming I saw something in the theatre, watching it a total of 3 or 4 times is very highly unlikely to me.

It's nice not having to go to the video store. Most of them I paid about 5 bucks for anyways....that and once you start buying a few you're like oh..I need to have that movie too and that movie is a classic so pretty soon you have a bunch and it's more you're trying to collect rather than have anything practical. That and it's great to bring girls over and have an HDTV and nice sorround setup to watch movies on without having to go to the store to find something...

I have been interested in movies since I was like 10. Been collecting dvds for like 4 years now. I have seen everyone of my movies. I usually watch them right when I buy them and then watch them again if it's a movie I can't remember the plot to or the ending to or whatever or if I just think the movie is awesome in general. Movies like The Stand, Gods & Generals, Gettysburg, and Dances with Wolves I may not watch that often because it's sometimes hard to sit through a 3 - 4+ hour movie.

Oh yeah, who in here is getting excited for the new Alien Quadrilogy 9-disc set on 12/1???!!! That'll be awesome!!!!

I have quite a few (no pic at this point). But on the shelves my favorites are:
Hard Boiled (Criterion Collection before it got pulled )
The Playmates and the Vampire (campy horror)
Suspira
Rollerball (the original movie with James Caan)

I dunno. About 40?

How can you guys watch so many movies more than one time?

I can only count about 10-15 movies I could stand to see a second time--mainly sci-fi, comedies and cult hits (Caddyshack, Airplane, Highlander, Dune, Raiders Of The Lost Ark, first 3 Star Wars).

To me, movies are one time things, unless you watch a WTF movie like Memento and Sixth Sense where you have to watch it again to catch all the clues from a different perspective.

BTW, I own about 10 DVDs. Most are concerts (Phish, Dave, Ben Folds, Wilco, etc). I have The Family Guy release from the US and the UK release from a couple years ago. And that's about it.

It's true and more than a bit revealing about our consumption based culture. That's why I  Net Flix.
