Yes varii evolve, when one of the first commercial antivirals was used in the US (AZT), varii were found with resistance within 2 years of its introduction. Resistance was even found in patients who had never been treated with AZT.

I don't know where you got that 500 Mpixel and 572 Mtexel default fill rates. According to my math your way off. If you look here:

You will notice that the Viper II has a dual pixel pipeline and a dual texel pipeline per pixel pipeline. That means with the default core speed of 125MHz you'll have a pixel fill rate of only 250 Mpixels, but the texel fill rate is twice that, 500 Mtexels.
The GeForce SDR and DDR have four pixel pipelines with only one texel per pipeline. That means at the default core speed of 120MHz, you'll have a pixel fill rate of 480 Mpixel and a 480 Mtexel fill rate. In case your wondering, the GeForce 2 has the same 4 pixel pipeline, but also incorperates two texels per pixel pipeline.
In my review of the Viper II, I have found the card to be as fast in comparison to the GeForce SDR, but far from being as fast as a GeForce DDR. The drivers for the Viper II are holding it back big time. Especially due to the many bugs in the Savage 2000s hardware T&L engine. Notice I said "bugs in the hardware".
