Okay, so we moved around in the house a bit due to a recent addition to the family, and now I don't have the room for my big tower rig any more.. I need to build myself a "tower worthy" gaming rig..

I play games mainly, and I do it on a 1900*1200 24" monitor.. And I don't want to overclock more than what any in-BIOS "auto overclock" can do for me..

I'm buying all my parts in Denmark, so links to Newegg offers are wasted ..

I'm transferring the following from my old build:
NorthQ Giant-Connector 850w psu
2*1TB Samsung F1 HDD's
Samsung DVD burner
ATI 4870x2 w. Arctic Cooling Extreme cooler

What I'm planning to build it on is the following:

Silverstone SG02 case (chosen because it's the only mini-ATX case I know will fit my graphics)
Asus Rampage II Gene (Or should I try to get a hold of the Evga x58 mini, or something else completely?)
Core I7 920 cpu
Silverstone NT-06 cooler
12GB of PC3-10666 memory (ideas for brands that work well on the chosen board are welcome)
2*80GB Intel X25M-G2 SSD's (ideas for mounting these in a 5.25 bay are welcome)
Windows 7 Home Premium

dont' really see how it would matter, footprint is similar.its more a matter or managing space so your tower fits under the desk or what not. unless you live in a closet i don't see how it matters that much.

I see how it can sound confusing, but it's specifically the height of the tower I can't accomodate right now. It has to be about 15cm's lower than my current case (CM690), so I simply decided to go the uATX route instead..

Is it possible to laydown the tower on its side?? Not sure if that'll work, but will solve your "height" problem without spending a dime!!

Heh, I actually hadn't thought of that.. Pretty good idea.. But I'd have my feet on the case then, and my chair banging into it too, and my G25 pedals won't have a home either..

I've seen computers built on the bottoms of desks. If it won't get bumped, you can attach the components bare. There's really a lot of creative ways to save room if you divorce the typical box idea. There's no law that says computers HAVE to be in a box.

Just read anandtechs Lynnfield article, and I think that the i7 860 might just be the upgrade I want..

I'm changing to Win7 as soon as it's out..
I can reuse my Corsair DDR3-1333 modules (4*2gb)

Which motherboard to go for though? The nicest one so far looks to be the Asus Maximus III Gene, but I'm still not too happy about Asus.. Been burned a few times before.. Any other recommendations?
