So Republicans pass it in the House, get 50 votes in the Senate, but !@#$ America because the Senate still requires 60 votes. An impossible threshold for one party to reach when the minority wants to hold the country hostage for concessions.
The 60 vote rule stands at the convenience of the majority party. In this case, Mitch found it convenient to impose the rule and shut down the government. Mitch never let the 60 vote rule get in the way of something he really wanted to pass.

Did you read above? GOP didn't even have 50 votes so what are we talking about here?

In such situations generally the rule is not to have the vote and make your members walk the political plank.

Republicans couldn’t even get 50 votes themselves. How were they going to pass this CR again?
Usual Republican excuses coming up. Dog ate out homework.
Illegals over Americans! The Schumer Shutdown should result in big wins for the Dems this fall. /s

CNN poll: DACA not worth a shutdown, except to Democrats

How damned stupid can the Dem's be? Pretty damned stupid but it does show how much their backs are to the wall. Without the votes of illegals they know their party is history. The only way they can stay alive in Trump's America is by perpetuating and creating even more government dependency. Desperate times call for desperate measures.
Only 31% blame Dems. 80% support DACA.

I don't care if there's a few teahadists in the Senate. The number of Democrats who voted for shutdown far outnumber them.

As for specifics, last night's vote in the Senate was 50-49. It requires 60 votes. That a simple majority vote isn't enough to pass a bill remains one of the most ridiculous and dysfunctional things in our government.

Yeh, take a look at what's happening in the federal judiciary & tell us it's a good thing. Tell us that the tax bill looting spree is a good thing.

Looks like congress will accomplish little today. House leaders convinced they have the winning hand and don't need to give on anything. At least some Senate Rs don't seem to share that view entirely.

Only movement of note is some agreement that shortening the CR to Feb 8 seems like an option to WH and Congressional Rs. So far doesn't appear to be sufficient for Ds who want some kind of structure to force a DACA deal by the time the CR is up.

Nice cherry picking of data from the article.

In that poll, Dems come out the worst...marginally worst, but still the worst.

Also, a majority of Anericans do not support a shutdown over DACA, which means a majority support DACA independent of the govt shutting down. A majority do not support the govt shutting down over DACA.

That is like saying a majority of Americans oppose Russian interference in our election, but that does not mean a majority supports going to war over it.

It was a push poll. The government didn't get shut down over DACA. The government got shut down because Republicans are incapable of governing.

Most of you guys are missing the larger issue. We have a Congress not doing the job the constitution mandates them to do, pass a budget to fund the government, these continuing resolutions are a bullshit and unstable way to run the government. The military itself says it can't operate on that basis.
So much for that constitution loving, strong military defenders the Republicans call themselves.

Edit.

To add to this; I think a government shutdown is wrong but it's just another symptom of how dysfunctional Congress has become. Republicans have perverted the normal process of governing and their constant obstruction and unwillingness to compromise has led to no other options.

If we were to look at this shutdown in a vacuum I think Democrats would be to blame and I think their demands would be unreasonable however we don't live in a vacuum and I think their actions are not only warranted but necessary.

simple question. are they citizens? yes or no.

FYI i served with people from other countries who were still citizens of the country they were from they joined the US armed forces.

The military is considered essential and will still report for duty. However, the troops -- including those in combat -- will potentially not be paid during a shutdown.
If the shutdown goes on for weeks, about 1.3 million active-duty military will be expected to work potentially without pay. The military is currently paid through February 1.

this would not be good if our troops dont get paid.

Not concessions. Illegal aliens. The Democrats are holding the country hostage for illegal aliens.

you dont care? does the below pic illustrate who are?

Is the is the new Republican talking point? It's pretty stupid. The troops might not get paid because the Republicans had better things to do than govern.

Nope, the Republicans control the House, Senate, and the White House. The Republicans don't need a single Democrat vote to pass a budget or CR. The only reason the government is shut down is because Republicans chose to shut it down.
