in win2k , right click my computer and goto properties/Hardware/Device Manager/view and then click on "show hidden devices"
hopefully you should see a resource called NT Apm/Legacy Support , if it has a red mark next to it then this is your problem , just double click it to access the properties and then Re-Enable the device , then reboot and your good to go
in order to have your computer automatically turn its power off after you've initiated the shutdown command, you have to enable the 'Advanced Power Management Support" option.
