Shutdown question

When I goto shutdown Windows shuts down and my monitor no longer gets any input everything is still on in the case but no HD activity or RAM Activity (My RAM has LEDs that light up when theres activity)

Am I expected to hit the PSU switch in back when this happens? If I just it the power switch it just boots back up....

P.S I just finished building a computer for the first time. With my dell everything just shutoff once I hit shutdown. Specs on request

What is still on in the case, the motherboard? What is exactly going on? Are your CPU / chipset fans still running? Or is it just a bunch of motherboard LEDs on? Does your PSU fan still rotate?

Another way to force a computer shut off is to hold the power button down rather than unplugging the power cord / switching the PSU off. I'm not sure if it's any better, but it's how I usually force my computers to shut down.

Ram LED's on, All Fans running, PSU fan on I believe (It's got "CoolGuard" though)

Haven't checked on any Motherboard LEDs

Have you tried booting into safe mode and shutting down from there?

No how do you boot in safe mode for vitsa...

Did I mention I was running vista?

Make sure you're actually clicking shut down. The power button thing on the start menu is for sleep mode. If you click the little arrow to the right, you'll see more power options. From there, you should be able to select shut down and your computer should completely turn off.
