It was a good movie. Throughout something seemed Off, but I couldn't quite put my finger on it until the Endish reveal.

Awesome film, so beautifully crafted. I do not understand how someone could hate the whole film because the "twist" was not twisty enough. :hmm:

It was much too cliché for me. Predictable story. I love Scorsese and DiCaprio and was disappointed in this movie.

He recovered momentarily using the role-playing, but he regressed right away and restarted the whole delusion all over again.

I think I figured out the plot to the movie about 10 minutes in.

I loved it... so what they explained the movie? LOL typical ATOT... I know what you are thinking: "movie insulted my intelligence, I could have figured it out even without the explanation" yeah well, guess what - Scorsese doesnt give a damn if you are smart or not, and he wanted everything explained clearly

You sound like those black metal elitists in the metal archives who whine about everything that doesnt sound like it was recorded in the bathroom

Stop being such damn elitists and enjoy the movie for what its worth

Seriously. Did you sleep through the last act? It was clearly explained to the audience. I expected better of Scorsese. I couldn't believe he stooped that low. I already had an idea about what was going on , but the way the story was told ruined the movie for me.

Look at his avatar, I highly (no pun intended) doubt he was sleeping, but he was doing something.

Nope, you didn't figure it out in 10 minutes. I don't think you understood the ending. Admittedly though, I had to check Wikipedia's plot summary to see if I got it right. You might want to read Wikipedia's plot summary. You totally missed the ending.

For me while the end of the movie catches you off guard with the ending, I thought it ruined the film. The storyline I thought was brilliant, then you get the catch it was all in his head. It went from an A movie to a C movie because of it.

The ending is left open to interpretation. Andrew either fell back into his fantasy world for real, or deliberately chose to act insane because he couldn't live with himself.

Another possibility that explains the ending is that he wasn't crazy at all. He just realized that there was no way he could possibly get off of the island and he didn't feel like subjecting himself to that for the rest of his life.

I think his quote to "Chuck" right before they take him away at the end reveals that he is actually sane at that point and would rather get lobotomized and "die" than to live the rest of his life knowing what he knows and stuck in that place. I think the Doctor also realized he was faking the regression but let him make that decision for himself.

"Which would be worse, to live as a monster or die as a good man?"

Within 15 mins I knew he was a patient. There were way too many clues that he was nuts and that his partner work at the asylem.

Way overrated movie that people think is good just because of the so called 'twist'. Which wasnt much of a twist as it was so obvious.

.. the point wasn't to trick people.. the movie was laid out so you would know that. I knew he was a patient just from the previews, and I'm not Einstein.

I totally disagree, but we already covered this ad nauseum with the first Shutter Island thread which, for some reason, I can't seem to find in search.

LOL, really? I didnt see a preview of it, but if they gave the twist away it's pretty piss poor.

And whats with all these retards who dont understand the file? Go over to IMDB and see all the threads where people want to know what happened.

There are also a stack of people who think that he really wasnt a pacient, and that they really did trick him to keep the conspiracy hidden. Crazy. :|

The preview had a clip of that "Who's patient 67?" scene and, at least for me, gave enough of Leo going crazy that it was pretty obvious the twist was that he was 67. I really didn't think the movie tried to trick anyone. I just thought the point was for the audience to watch the progress of Leo as he moves from his delusion to reality over the course of the film until the end when he's back to normal but decides that he "prefers" the delusion.
