My problem is this: The system works fine with just the sound card
and video card installed. As soon as I install a modem, the sound
card, the video card and the modem get pushed on to IRQ 11 and then
stablity goes all to hell. The configuration are as follows:
1. AI61, flashed to most recent bios.
2. Win98 SE, with most recent AMD drivers installed (all three)
3. Diamond Viper 2000, set to 2X AGP setting (also flashed to most
recent bios) using most recent S3 reference drivers.
4. Vortex I sound card with AMD optimized drivers
5. T-Bird 900
6. 2 different PCI modems - a CL modem blaster, DI3635 (system won't even post with this one in); and a
Eigercom MM9050, (it works but system crashes a lot). I also tried an external USB modem (A boca b100) but
it would crash the system every time I tried to disconnect (this is a
different problem as it occurs on every system I've tried this modem
on).
Before adding the modem, my video card is on IRQ 11 and my sound card
is on IRQ 4 or 10, depending on what slot is used. System was very stable as judged with starcraft, shogun and battle realms all running fine.
After adding the modem and everything goes to 11, and the games listed above start crashing randomly, either to the desktop or to a black screen. I tried all different combinations of PCI slots for the sound card and
modem. I tried installing the modem first then the sound card, again
no luck.
I tried an older video card, a Diamond monster fusion 1X AGP, with the
same results. In the bios I set the Init Display First to AGP, and I
set ESCD to enabled with no luck. Can anyone help with some other
ideas? Thanks!
