Shuttle AK31 Rev 2...

Okay, so I just saw the fairly favorable review at cluboc.net for the Shuttle AK31 Rev. 2 board, and was wondering if anyone has it.

I had been on the verge of buying the Epox 8K7A, but the Shuttle's V-Link bus between the VIA chips and 4 DDR DIMM slots... AND lower price, it seems kind of attractive.

But I'm very out of the loop on Motherboard manufacturers, and have never heard of Shuttle before (or Epox for that matter, but that one's been pretty much universally praised).

So if anyone can give me a heads up on Shuttle's quality, or even better some info on the AK31 Rev. 2 board, I would greatly appreciate it!

Well, as fa as I know Shuttle has been around for a long time, they have always had the current chip out in produciton with their motherboards to My experience. The Ak31 looks Promising, another review at Legionhardware.com wasn't as good though. I might want to wait and See what other KT266 motherboards come out, like the KR7, or even the A7V266, Epox has one on the way also, the 8KHA or something like that, not quite sure on the title, anyway, just make sure if yo do get a KT266 chip motherboard, make sure it is the revision2, I hope other companies like Msi, K7T266, will Indeed do a revision on their motherboard. My interested is on the K7T266, comes with a lot of usefull stuff in the box ^_^. The Ak31 looks like a Tremendous value, 4 dims and the Price is hangikng around in the 100's, pretty good deal. This one member here, um, Cluzo, I Think supposidly ordered one, but never said anything about it. Who knows. I'd keep a good watch on the KT266 chip, I know I am.

I received the AK31 yesterday from Mwave and upon installation today the board was DOA. No post, just 1 long beep. It's been RMA'd and I expect its replacement next week. I was disappointed to see the board is a Rev. 1.34. The Mwave rep was very friendly and service was quick. When I advised her I'd need the revision 2 of the board, she said Mwave could not guarantee I'd get the new rev. I advised her of the problems with this revision(1.0+) but still she could not guarantee me a Rev 2 replacement. When the new board comes in (sometime next week) I'll post my findings.

Jeez, well you shouldn't take the revison1, it is way down in performace compared to the revison2. Just wait a while for them to get out of circulation, then order again. I wouldn't dare take a motherboard on the KT266 revision1. Oh yeah, Epox announced its KT266motherboard, Read the review at Hardwareluxx.com, you'll need to Translate it with Altavista. It looks good, it's a revison1 too though, so it could get a lot more performace. Anyone know when the K7T266 will recieve a revision?

I let the Mwave rep know that if the replacement wasn't a Rev. 2 they'd be getting it back. She said that was OK, but I wouldn't get my shipping refunded. I'll take that hit to get what I want. It wouldn't be the first time and I'm sure it won't be the last.

Yeah, that's definately a good move, I'm sure you've seen the comparison between the two.
