Shuttle ak31a or epox 8kha+?

I'm stuck in a decision here, i dunno which one to get...This is mainly for a amd athlon xp1700 or maybe 1800...

Right now, the shuttle board is $10 cheaper. Is the epox worth the extra price? Or am i paying $10 for 6 pci slots i will most likely not use all.

The EPoX has great overclocking abilities, go for it, its a great solid board

get the epox, its a more solid board, and they have a better record then shuttle. Shuttle's 4th RAM slot is useless anyway.

I like the Shuttle. I've built a number of systems with it. The only bad thing is the chipset fan is very unreliable. I strongly recommend you buy a replacment fan with the board. Most of them don't last 2 weeks.

The shuttle is good. remove the chipset fan though. Does this epox suffer from the voltage problem of the older one? The problem where the motherboard does not use one of the voltage lines, so was flakey with weaker power supplies?

Despite everyone saying their chipset fans are dying... mine is still working like new. I've had my board for almost 3 months now.

I'd consider spending a bit more for the Shuttle AK35GTR RAID board - just for the 4 discrete IDE ports.

The estra IDE ports allow, for example, 2 HDs and CDRW and CDROM devices with each device assigned as master on their own IDE port, eliminating any system inefficiency of master/slave configurations.
