Shuttle at Best Buy

I believe the particular model I saw was this newer G 5690. I don't see this for sale separately on Shuttle's XPC site - it appears to be a BB only pre-made model.

Any clue what model this really is? IMHO - these are a lot quieter than I had originally thought, and it seem to me, sitting in a corner on carpeted flooring, this would be inaudible. Definitely quieter than my near-silent full-ATX computer with super silent fans, PSU's, etc...

Haven't seen them in the store.

They are quiet in the store due to all the ambient noise in the store.... I have one and though it's not loud... it's audible.

I think if you purchased the shuttle bare bones kit you might save some money buying your own components and building it yourself. Some people may want a larger than 160gig hard drive and some people may not need that large a hard drive. I think they need to have a flash reader if they have no floppy.

Not a hot deal post - was just curious which comparable model this is to the Shuttle barebones.

It could conceivably be any of the models that support the 800mhz bus. Probably not the SS56G as that had a different colored faceplate. But from the specs, it could be any one of them. As far as I know, all the S478 shuttles use the Realtek audio and it doesn't say if it's dual channel or not. Probably an 865 based box, just guessing though. ozziegn is right about it being cheaper to build yourself, but not by that much.
