Shuttle MN31/N microATX nForce2 mobo

Just read this. Seems like a good alternative to Shuttle's SN41G2. Anyone seen it anywhere yet?

this is a motherboard, not a case and motherboard setup... and it is a micro atx, not mini atx motherboard. it is larger than the sn41g2 motherboard, and would not fit in the case. also, it is the motherboard by itself... no case is included, much less a very small aluminum case.

Yes, I do know that it is a mobo only and you need to get a casing for it (you get to choose which one). I did not say it can REPLACE the mobo in SN41G2.

and certainly, micro-ATX cases can be plenty accommodating while still being small

oh, well, in that case, the motherboard performance will be nearly the same, since both computers would use the nforce 2 chipset which is currently the fastest amd chipset.

onelin0: I suppose microATX solutions are cheaper than the Shuttle ones as well

Yes, I read the same article the other day. I also found THIS one at OCWorkbench. I have been looking at quite a few different MicroATX (mATX uATX µatx) cases and motherboards lately. The cases in particular seem to have incredibly weak power supplies, yet are still priced quite a bit higher than I expected. The In Win L545P and the Enlight EN-7396 are both rather intriguing though.

FWIW, I run a P4 1.8A oc'd to 2.4Ghz, two Seagate Barracudas, a DVD-RW, and a CD-RW off of the power supply which came with my InWin V-523 case, which is only 180W...

Thanks to zeroidea mentioning the InWin V-523, I was able search Google to find quite a few InWin Micro-ATX Mini Tower cases listed for reasonable prices. I will have to do a bit more research perhaps, but the site was Provantage.com and I'm not entirely familiar with their reputation as a retailer. Would that others charged less than $50 for these SFF cases, instead of $65-$90. I am particularly enamored by the IW-T515, as it seems to be both beautiful and functional.

There are other lines I am interested in though. The Yeong Yang Micro ATX Tiny Tower series is nice, offering many good looking options. The Casetek Tiny Towers seem to be based upon the same basic platform design as the Yeong Yang (AKA Casper), with some improvements. I found a gallery that shows off the innards of CK-1007 cases rather well.
