Shuttle on the Fritz

I bought a new shuttle 45g and it looks great, but that?s about all I can tell you about it. When I installed the parts;

2500 Barton
1GB Corsair value select
NVIDIA 4200 128mb 8xagp
NEC 2500 DVD RW
floppy
250GB WD special

it booted up, I went to BIOS, set the time, boot sequence etc..., then rebooted and all that happen was the fan came on and the LED light came on for about 30 seconds then went off. The monitor didn?t come on; the BIOS didn?t appear ........nothing.

I have another shuttle just like it so I put the innards from the one that works into the bad shuttle and same thing. I reset the CMOS same thing. However I have tried many different configs and I reset the CMOS in-between all of them and sometimes after resetting the CMOS it will go to start up screen and stop, but most of the time it won't POST (about 8 POST - 30 no POST), but none of them ever reboot after going into the BIOS and setting the boot sequence.

I have tried a different PSU, thinking that was the problem but that didn't fix it. I'm out of suggestions; if anyone else can think of one let me know.

I had a shuttle that I built for my sister give me the same problems... wouldn't boot and would just hang there with the lights on. This was after it ran flawlessly for about 4 months. Tried a different Power Supply and different RAM as well, but still no go. Eventually I had to get another system to replace it. Used the exact same parts and the new system (same model 41g I believe) worked perfectly on the first try. The one thing though I didn't try on the troublesome system was reinstalling the CPU. You might want to try that and get a good even layer of thermal grease/goop and good contact with the heatsink. You have already tried this, so besides that, you may have gotten a bum system. Good luck.

I think it might be RMA time, but try flashing the BIOS, first. If you can't do it in the bad machine, try a hot flash with the good machine.

what version of the motherboard do you have? Apparently version is the most stable and least problamatic of the SN45G series. I have version 1 . Here it is open!

I had the same problems with my SN41G2. Worked perfectly for almost a year, then blammo. Troubleshot it for a week or two, then pulled the components and stuck it in the closet and bought and iDeq. Put in components, iDeq has been running perfectly (and much quieter) for the past couple months.
