How much are these regularly? I want to pick one up.

NM i went to shuttle.com to see their prices and it looks like they are cheaper but i didnt look at how much shipping is. http://us.shuttle.com/Xmas.asp

Sorry my mistake looks like this deal only goes through resellers. Which means newegg is the cheapest.

funny, this must have just happened. i got a silver from buy.com this week for 229 it is now at 271 on the site. the black on newegg was 245 yesterday. i guess it comes down to what they have in stock. shuttle links to zipzoom, newegg and one other.

Shuttle XPC Barebone System for Socket 478 at 533/800MHz FSB Intel CPU, Model SB65G2

seems better to me-- has WIFI and a faster chipset- doesnt have onboard video but i'm not a fan of onboard video anyways~

What's a recommended low end ATI video card with DVI?

I would say a 9600 or a 9500. You can probably get one for less than a 100 but it all depends what you will use it for.

I would probably use this as an HTPC and want to hook it up to an LCD from time to time.

Looking for best bang for your buck.

hmm a 9200 should do but if you want it to support media center, u might need at least a 9600 or 9550

If you are not doing a lot of intense gaming I would stick with the 9600 or 9500. I dont know if 9200s come with dvi and dont know much about nvidia since I dont like their old cards. Their newer cards are a different story.

Should I go with Hauppauge PVR250 + 9600 or 9600 AIW only?

Can you link to the best bang for your buck 9600 on NewEgg?

Hi Rossman,

I got an ATI 9600 Pro (retail) from outpost for $99 a week ago. I thought it was a good deal for a 9600pro actually made by ATI. You might want to check it out and compare prices with other vendors.

linky

i wouldnt call 9600's low end yet... some 9200 DO have DVI and they're sub $50-- same goes for the new 9250 models (which may actually support media center, not sure though)-

def. stay clear of the AIW ..the pvr250 will take a whole lot of load of the processor..also graphics cards drop maybe 30-40% of their value every six months. makes it easier to upgrade

How is the TV out on the 9600?

I've noticed the S-Video outputs aren't too sharp. Of course I've just been using a cheap S-Video cable that came with my home theater system... so maybe if you used a higher-end Monster Cable or such, it would be better.

What I noticed that's a lot better is getting one of those RGB (regular blue monitor output) --> to --> RCA or S-Video adapters. That way you don't have to worry about the card having a TV-Out or not.

if you dont have a graphics card yet, get the 6600gt..very popular with htpc folks ..good value IMO

BTW what kind of tv are you trying to connect it to.. if its just svid or component then the 9600 is good enough. if you are doing component/HTDV and VMR9 the gpu on the 9600 can barely handle it.

The 9200 is supported in MCE 2005, I have one right next to me, check out ATi's site.

I've got the same box but for the Athlon 64. It's the best case I've ever had!! It's so easy to move around. My only complaint is that the fan is loud in the summer time. (I don't have very good AC)
