Not really a hot deal, but I thought someone might like to know it's now there. I was wanting one of these, but I jumped on the SS51G P4 from the refurb section. When you consider the fact that the P4 CPU cost more than the AMD, this system is about the same deal as the reburbished SS51G.

Ich! What's with the green stripe on the front of the case? I personally wish that all the Shuttle barebones systems looked like the SS40G of if they are going to do different colors, I wish that they'd give you a choice.

Rant mode off.

significantly? how so ... no one is going to use the integrated video ... as for the ddr 333 advantage .. whats that another 1-2 fps?

improve .. yes, significantly .. no

also mwave has this item for 280

its not like a game is going to run like garbage on one, and great on the other, given the same addon hardware.

they both have agp ports is my point. im just trying to put your words into relative terms ... youll see an improvement it just wont be night and day, what 5% ... maybe. most people aren't going to want to buy ddr333, led alone 2 sticks for the dual channel difference. pci bandwidth ... you know for the 1 expansion slot your not going to fill.

there is a giant nforce2 hype machine churning away at the moment, dont let it overshadow alot of decent alternatives. the sk41 and sn41 are tiered products not meant to compete directly with each other. the sn41 is 2 months down the road, in a higher price class (expect 380 to start), and yet to be reviewed

hey at least its not sis anyways ill save any more comments for OT, if your pondering a purchase of this board and dont want to wait a few months, or want to save a little cash, or want to reuse existing hardware give this little box a look.

If I select 3 day shipping at mwave, then the price comes to $306.18. If I had it shipped ground, then I could save $10 over the newegg price. If you live close to CA, then mwave is definately the way to go.

Shuttle SK41G has agp slot. But nForce2 XPC's integrated video is good enough for non hardcore gamers, letting me save a few bucks.

This is pretty sweet. Does any know where to get the carring-case bag for these? I'm really thinking about grabbing this for a lan box. Are there any reviews for it? Thanks.

They have a shuttle website where you can buy the accessories for your shuttle i can't remember the website but i'm sure you could go to the american shuttle site to get a link to it.

Mwave is 280+ 20 shipping. IMO i would pay the extra 9 bucks for newegg's service and it's faster shipping.. they ship all of there stuff fedex express saver which is in other words 2nd day air.

Also the SN41 is going to be more than just onboard video it supposed to have really really good sound i forget all the specs on it. just go to here and go to the Small form factors and quiet computers section of there forums and they have plenty of info about it.

actually 9 over the newegg price plus you are getting slower shipping and not as good service at least IMO.

While I can respect not being psyched about the nforce version, I wouldn't discount the nforce's great onboard digital out audio for the htpc crowd, better drivers (including ide drivers), and integrated dual out video. Not a perfect lan gaming box without a vid card upgrade, but surely lots of interesting sff/htpc uses.

THE ONLY QUESTION IS!

When is the Shuttle Nforce2 coming out?
Ok, I would not mind knowing what it?s going to retail for as well and where I can find the MIR

I have read everything from tomorrow to never (well at least not until next month which might as well be never). LOL

I have a big LAN coming up end of Dec and I need to decide soon if I can get the new nforce2 or just go for SK41G.

Ya, I know the performance is only a little bit better. Given the price of the SK41G I'm going to want the best my money will buy assuming there in the same high price range. If nothing else its just nice to know that if my video card dies or my friend forgets to bring there?s to a LAN that I will have a back up available use. (Similar to a geforce4 MX).

Well, it's a long shot but if anyone finds out a good estimate of the price (no rumors please) or of its release date of the shuttle nforce2. Please post it!

Cheers: Zoboomafoo

wait for the Nforce2, it will take the Barton chips later on (400 FSB) with Dual DDR400
it's the ONLY way ... if you want your purchase be a Long term investment...

just wait for it
and wait for barton 512k L2
with 400 FSB...

(wait till March, things will get cheaper...)

even if you dont like the newer expensive CPUs...(the older ones would be real cheap by then ( ^_^ )

I learned a LONG time ago that if you keep waiting, you will NEVER buy anything. WHen the nForce version comes out, in a few months people will be saying....."WAIT" because something else is coming out soon.

I am getting the SK-41G this weekend!

Actually, the memory bandwidth can make the difference between unplayable and playable, even if it can't make your game uber kick ass...when I went from an AMD 761 based board from ASUS(a top quality brand if you didn't realize ... also a top quality board) to a cheap assed Shuttle AK31A with a KT266A(which isn't even that fast of a KT266A board) return to castle wolfenstein went from slightly choppy to smooth..I had a Radeon VIVO in that machine in case you were wondering.

So there's definitely a difference...if you have some insane card and you get 200FPS anyway you probably don't care that you get 5 more FPS...but when you're doing 18FPS and it gets a kick up to 24 it's more than noticable.

By the way i now have a radeon 9700tx...haven't yet tested it but it seems to have 3.6ns ram

Howdyman,
For me the deal was $$. I had 768M of PC2100 RAM sitting around, so getting a machine that ran a higher spec of memory wouldn't make too much sense because I probably couldn't take advantage of it. Plus, all of my other parts were hand-me downs (the SK41G is not my home machine, but the box I use in my office at work/lab) and hence it doesn't need to produce those extra 5 or 20 FPS in first person shooters (I don't game at work...much). Bottom line is that I'm very happy with my SK41G purchase.

What makes me think that the SN41 might not make it for XMas is that no boards using the IGP northbridge are even appearing for previews yet. There's a distinct difference between the IGP and SPP northbridges, that being integrated video.

To think that Shuttle would be the first company to put out an nForce2 IGP board would be wishful thinking. Especially since it's even smaller than Micro-ATX - the SN41 won't come out until you see larger ATX cousins come out.

And for people buying the SK41G, you're not making a mistake. Shuttle has started selling their newer heatpipe cooler AND singular motherboards, so you'll be able to upgrade it down the line to a more recent chipset.

I've had requests about where you can find the singular Shuttle boards. I can't help you there, but I can with the mobo model names.

SK41 uses the FX41 mainboard (this is the Via KM266 board)

SB51 uses the FB51 mainboard (this is the Intel i845GE board)

SS51G uses the FS51 mainboard (this is the classic SiS 650 w/AGP board)

The new heatpipe is not online yet, hence I can't get the model number. This is most likely due to it's newness - it should come with the SK41, SB51, and upcoming SN41G.

Also an update on the SN41G - approx. a week ago I read an article saying IGP nForce2 chipsets were ETA 2 weeks - which means the SN41 will probably be out early January at the EARLIEST. Sorry to those of you wanting a nice sub-MicroATX Christmas present... :<
