i always find alienware's 'compare with' page very amusing.... this time they compared it w/ HP, and they forgot to compare the price..

SK41 uses the FX41 mainboard (this is the Via KM266 board)

SB51 uses the FB51 mainboard (this is the Intel i845GE board)

SS51G uses the FS51 mainboard (this is the classic SiS 650 w/AGP board)

The new heatpipe is not online yet, hence I can't get the model number. This is most likely due to it's newness - it should come with the SK41, SB51, and upcoming SN41G.

Also an update on the SN41G - approx. a week ago I read an article saying IGP nForce2 chipsets were ETA 2 weeks - which means the SN41 will probably be out early January at the EARLIEST. Sorry to those of you wanting a nice sub-MicroATX Christmas present... :<

The heatpipe is available at the shuttle accessories store. The SN41 isn't supposed to be released now until mid january from what i hear. If you want more info just visit these forums: small form factors 24/7.

Oh and btw i heard that there's going to be a OEM version of windows media center. But you need to realize that it's made for well i can't remember the exact tv tuner card but i believe you have to have a certain card for it to work properly.

GreatBambino:

As far as I know, the heatpipe shown on Shuttle's site now is the old design. The newer design sports more tubes and a much smaller over-die footprint. When I first saw the new design, I was a little wary but as far as I've heard, it does quite well. I think it's an all-copper construction instead of a soldered hybrid design this time.

Additionally, Shuttle is working on a wireless addon that doesn't take up a USB port or PCI slot, as Jasper said on Sudhian - it mounts as an antenna over the PSU and plugs into the motherboard, evidently.

His comments after the Shuttle XPC Launch Party in late October
:

About the wireless.... they actually had it on hand and I checked it out. Thankfully it does not take up a USB or PCI slot, but instead plugs into somewhere on the motherboard? and has a small antenna that mounts on the backside, just above the powersupply. Shuttle should have this accessory for sale soon.

Well i haven't heard about a new heatpipe? I thought they had 1 heat pipe for the intel versions and 1 heatpipe for the AMD version. You might be thinking of the AMD version heat pipe? Anyways if you really want the new heatpipe you could probably e-mail shuttle about it and buy it. I bet you can.

alienware has a third party company paint all their cases, keyboards, mouse, monitors, speakers, etc. i e-mailed shuttle two weeks ago asking if they r going to release a black version of the x pc in the near future and she said they have no plan to.

I have to share my SK41G experience. I bought one to build my wife a new SSF PC for our bedroom. It is fairly quiet, and the size is nice, but I wish they would redesign the case to support two 5.25 drive bays, instead of one 5.25 & one 3.5. Hardly anybody will want a floppy in it anyway, and if they did, they could always get a 5.25-to-3.5 adapter plate.

Now for the system I built. To save money, I reused the Athlon XP 1800+ and DDR RAM I had in my current system. For the initial setup, I used the builtin VGA card, and 6 channel sound. My CDRW rounded out the package. The builtin video; sucks for anything game-ish. The 3DMark2001 scores were sad, very sad.

I installed my GF3 Ti200 to hold me over till my AIW 9700 Pro arrived. 3Dmark 2001 scores with in the mid 6000s, and I was satisfied with that. It played every game I threw at it, but occasionally rebooted in the middle of a game. The internal CPU/Case temps were VERY reasonable. Under load (i.e.: multiple 3DMark runs) it was about 49/54.

I removed the GF3 and installed my AIW 9700 Pro, and all the associated software, two weeks ago. Since then, I've had 0, I mean ZERO crashes/reboots/unexplained errors. That's right! ATI finally got their $h!t together, and released a driver/software set that ROCKS! EVERY feature on the MMC package works as advertised, and and the non overclocked Athlon XP / AIW 9700 Pro turn a respectable 11000 3D marks in 3DMark 2001.

Needless to say, I'm VERY happy with the system, and I'm planning to build one for myself now. I just need to find somebody to buy my old stuff

I would give the SK41G a 8.5 out of 10 score

Pros:
Size, appearance, 6 channel audio, usb2 10/100 lan

Cons:
Needs two 5.25 bays, and zero 3.5 bays

Does this fit 2 internal hard drives and a 5.25 ide device? I'm thinking about building one in a couple months.

It fits 1 internal drive, but if you don't use the external 3.5 drive, then I think it can hold another in that spot, but heat can be an issue with this.

That's correct, if you don't use the external 3.5 you can add a second harddrive.

I just purchased the Shuttle SK41G along with a Ati 9500 pro. Im curious if I can use the Ati with a raid controller in the pci slot? (enough room) with two WD HD's in a raid 0. The Ati needs an extra power source and with the two Hd's along with the cd burner Im a little nervous the 200 watt power supply will handle it. Glendor or anybody else have any suggestions. Thx

Good rumors seem to be going around, that we will see the Nforce 2 based XPC shortly after the holidays. So figure mid January. And according some of the guys that run Sudhian.com, it will be cheaper then expected.

alright price for these little shuttle guys say nforce2 one at release $350 plus $80 for processor + $100 + for video + $30 for keyboard and mouse + $250 for a decent LCD total = around $800, 3 months from now you will be able to buy a lappy for less with integrated video that is comparable to a $100 vid card a much sleeker model oh and hard drive and ram is also included, although I like these shuttles they need to come down in price, a case and mobo is just not worth $300 just my opinion

I have an SK41 myself, and one of the things that I found was that it was amazingly cramped inside and had little room for cables and such. I don't think the IDE cables from the RAID card will fit, along with the normal IDE cables from the motherboard. Its so cramped inside, adn you'll end up having ide cables totally clogging up the little airflow you have in there.

As for the BIOS updates to the motherboard, I can't seem to find any on Shuttle's site. Do they not support it? or do they not have any BIOS updates for it yet? I'm confused.
