Shuttle SK41G - hard disk PIO problem

This is the problem.

The box is using WinXP Pro.

The box has one hard drive on the first IDE channel and one CDR/RW on the second IDE channel. Both are set to master, since they're on separate channels.

The drive is an 80GB EIDE 7200RPM Maxtor and the CDRW is a Yamaha CRW2100E.

Both drives' cables are connected to their proper motherboard connections.

I've no idea why the hard disk is stuck in PIO mode. I've had the box (built it) maybe 15 months. It's always been a bit slow and now I know why. WinXP is configured to automatically set the drive to UDMA but when you look at that image, you can see that a selection is greyed out. I can't change a thing. My only thought is that maybe the hard disk's IDE cable is bad, which is not good, since its using a cable that is specially designed for the box (ergonomics). I could replace it but I'd need to find a 6-8" replacement. And, I'd be pissed if I hunted one down only to find that it didn't solve the problem (getting to the motherboard's IDE connection is a damn chore).

Any ideas?

I'd suggest reloading your IDE drivers and make sure you have the latest version, you also may wanna try setting your drive to Cable Select (I know it sounds weird but I had a similar problem solved by this) Hope this helps...

I'll try redoing the drivers. I've already tried cable select though.
