I am thinking of buying a shuttle ss51g mini-computer along with a 2.4 P4 and two 512 PC2700 DDR chips. Anyway, was going to buy the shuttle ss51g from NewEgg when I saw the disclaimer "**This item is NOT REFUNDABLE, exchange for same exact item only!!** SHUTTLE SS51G". I emailed NewEgg to ask why the disclaimer? They wrote back, " We have noticed ahigh return rate of these systems due to customer
trying to upgrade the items, but not fully understanding how to do it properly. With customers doing this they think the item is defective, when it really is not. These are good systems, if the customer know how to
work with them."
So my question to any owners is what do you think? Are they great or not, also, are they super quiet as I am expecting? Appreciate all input... Thanks

foofoo, thanks for the links. I have been doing searches for the last week and had seen most threads, but not the most current one. I am wondering if anyone has comments on the "high" return rate to NewEgg. Anyone here one of those that returned a ss51?

I really like my SS51G. I don't know why they would have a high return rate - to me it seems like the build quality and the overall "feel" of the unit is top notch. All I can imagine is that people are buying them without really realizing how small they are, and then decide they can't live without two 5-1/2" drive bays or something. Or else they think they can buy one and then overclock the hell out of it when there aren't really any provisions for doing so. So when they lose the "overclock lottery" they want to send it back.

I was lucky, my P4 1.6A overclocks to 2.13GHz at the voltage provided by the mobo - which is slightly LESS than the "stock" 1.50V, BTW, and can't be changed in the BIOS. But if you don't plan to overclock then you should be golden.
