I just got a shuttle sv24 with a PIII. It is a great little machine and yes, it is loud as hell.

Shuttle makes quality products so yes, you should however get one of the just released models (sv25 or higher) because they have better sound, video, and take faster processors. They may have even addressed the loud fan issue...I don't know. >>



Yeah the SV24 stock PS fan is a screamer, I replaced the PS 40mm fan and the 60mm exhaust fan with ones I ordered from this website, which has fans and LEDs for SV24 specificly, http://www.issuespotting.com/fans/ a lot of his stuff is out of stock tho but those are some good fans.

how does the SV24 compare with the
Asus terminator? the terminator can share video up to 64MB but it's a slow sis 630 chipset...
i'm looking for a small portable desktop that i can move around and bring to lan parties...

I just replaced the stock hsf on my SV-25 with a Alpha PAL 153-U unit and the stock exhaust fan with a ThermalTake 60 X 25 high output fan. It is just as loud as before but the grating edge is gone and you can ignore the humming sound as opposed to the prior screaming sound.

I am currently running at 78 degrees F (CPU) resting and 86 degrees after a 2 hour DVD replay with a 1 gig P III. I am tempted to try without the hsf fan and replace the 60 X 25 with a quite 80 X 25 exhaust fan with 80 - 60 adapter to see if I can run a quite PC.

Since I am otherwise an AMD user will I burn up my P III without a fan?

Anybody know what the difference is between the SV24 and SV25? Looking at Shuttle's site, I don't see anything that different.

And regarding the fans, does anybody know which one is responsible for the bulk of the noise? The exhaust, or the PS?
