Anyone here have any links to some reviews on the Shuttle SV24? Perhaps someone here owns one.

Thanks.

newegg.com has 2 links in their listing for it. For a home theater PC I think the MSI MS-6215 barebones mini-system is a better fit (wider but less tall) but the cube would make a cool mini-server.

I've got one running a P3 500E as an email/Web/Word/Excel machine for my wife. I also have two printers hooked up to it and print and file sharing enabled for my little LAN.

Not a good system for 3D games, but adequate for general use.

Do you have any specific questions or concerns regarding this system?

have you guys tried using it to play dvd or divx type movies on the tv? how is the video out wokring? I was thinking about putting something like this to use as an entertainment system, but i'm not sure if i'd get the same quality out as say a dvd player or a normal computer (better graphics, proc, etc) with a scan converter. Any opinions?

I don't have one myself, but from the reviews the sound quality is only fair, so you'd probably need to put a 5.1 soundcard into the one slot. I didn't see the TV-out discussed in the reviews I read, but I didn't read the last few on eplebnista's link-list above.

I've pretty much decided for a home theater PC & remote player for my MP3-jukebox that I want to use a "normal" micro-atx size PC in a mATX desktop case instead of low-profile, so I can use an ATI card for video-out and a good 5.1 soundcard. Now all I need is some free time to buy & build it.

I haven't tried playing DVDs or DIVX using the TV out (or not, for that matter). As I recall, the DVD assist features of the Savage4 were not on par with those of the Rage Fury (or whatever board ATI had that was contemporary with the Savage 4 boards from over two years ago), so I would expect so-so results. For just playing DVDs, I'd get a set-top box.

I installed the soundblaster live and use the tv out to my 20 inch.. there is no comparison between my 17monitor and my 20" tv
If watching them side by side the tv picture is decent I dont have any problems with it and watch all my dvds it. I also use it for recording tv with haupagge usb wintv 2000 unit.. If you are looking for hdtv quality i wouldnt even bother..
A cheap way to hedge your bets is buying a savage 21.00 on pricewatch.. and doing a test run.. beats wasteing 250.00 +
It is awesome by me but I have no Idea what reasonable expectations are.. or what your perception of acceptable is..
I can tell you the 2d is better than my hercules geforce gts..

Someone with a sv24:

I am planning on buying an fv24 (just the motherboard, not the case) and build my own case - and I have two questions:

The power supply. 145W. Do you know the model number/brand? I realize almost any supply will do, but I am curious if shuttle has a special extra tiny miniture ATX supply or something like that.

Second: The USB/sound connecters on the front of the case: Any idea if that comes with the mb or the case? If it comes with the case, but not the fv24 alone, I will have to buy it extra and I am trying to figure out if I will be able to get it.

Thanks for your help!

I haven't had a great deal of luck with the TV-out feature (be it I am a rookie when it comes to audio/video). The front USB comes with the case, though you could buy a front panel USB adapter. The fv-24 motherboard itself it nothing to write home about, once you get over it's amazingly small size. Onboard video will "get you by". I would personally wait for an N-force solution to this size mobo (maybe even the Abit n-force board), unless you want to buy mine!!!! j/k

The power supply in mine is labeled : Channel Well Technology Co. LTD. Model CWT-150 FATX
150W +3.3V=10A +5V=14A +12V=4A

I also found riser cards...haven't verified if they work for this motherboard....but here's a link link

Enjoy!

probably cheaper to buy a sv24 then buy almost all of it separetly anyway. Rip the guts out and put it in a new case.
