Shuttle SV25 - Can't install OS

I just put together my Shuttle SV25 barebones cube with a Celeron 1.2, 384MB SDRAM, an 80GB Maxtor HD, and a 24X LiteOn burner. Anyways, it seems to boot up fine until I start installing an OS (i've tried XP and 2K). I partition the drive with a 10gb and an "everything else" partition, then I tell it to format and install on the 10GB partition. It formats, then gives me an error message saying it can't install on this partition, and the drive may be damaged. Thinking it might be a bad drive, I pull out an old 20GB drive that I know works, and get the same message. I also tried switching IDE cables. What could be going on here?

Change the jumpers on the HD.

a few ideas:

Flash SV25's mobo with newest BIOS file
Two bad drives?
Try NTFS if you were using FAT32 or FAT32 if you were using NTFS
Long shot- Change Jumpers on HDD (mentioned above)

Well, I got the latest BIOS for the FV25 motherboard and flashed it... same result. I even tried a new, shrink-wrapped copy of XP Pro. Nada. I tried yet another cable too, thinking I may have two bad ones, but that also didn't do it. I adjusted the jumpers on the drive... it was originally cable select and the only thing on the cable, it's now master... same result.

When you install XP you should only create the partition for the OS and leave the rest blank until you have finished installing windows.
Once in Windows use Disk Manager to create the remaining partitions.
The possible cause for your problem is that you may have used all the drive space for your partitioning and theres nothing left for Windows to use for your MBR etc maybe?
I know in the tech docs on the XP CD MS says you should not do all your partitioning from the installer. Use Disk manager.

What format are you using, NTFS or FAT32?

I'm only partitioning 10gb of the 80gb at a time, I usually do it that way - wait until I've got everything installed to setup and format the other partitions. I'm using NTFS.

Use ONLY one RAM slot and try again.
We shall assume that your XP CD is clean and ORIGINAL?

OK, I'll give that a shot. Yeah, I have two clean original XP CD's that I've tried, and my school's site-licensed copy of Win2K.

Nope, just tried each stick of RAM individually and yet another hard drive with the same result. Stupid POS... sure looks cool, it would make a great doorstop if it weren't aluminum. Sigh.
