Shuttle's SB51G has Hyperthreading? HUH?!

I thought Intel would only allow Hyperthreading to be enabled on Xeons and the P4 3.06Ghz and above, but Shuttle's latest SB51G claims support for it without a hacked BIOS. This isn't Granite Bay either, just a plain-jane 845GE. Are they pulling an "Abit BP6" on us and violating Intel's orders? I wonder if they can make a dual-channel DDR chipset in a SFF PC like that (I doubt the trace density would allow for such a small board)?

What it's saying is that the SB51G will support CPU's that have Hyperthreading. It's not like a motherboard can make a P4-1.6a have Hyperthreading.

All of the boards with the i845GE chipset will support Hyperthreading.

But the Hyperthreading 3.06GHz P4 will require a new or modified socket! Will it be a reverse compatable s478? If not, it should ONLY support P4 3.06GHz and up CPUs, making this a motherboard FROM THE FUTURE! (Scary)

The latest bios on my P4B533 has enabled Hyperthreading,so it's the same socket & only needed to be enabled on both cpu & bios with a chipset that supports it.

There was an announcement with a HUGE reaction from this board that the P4 3GHz would require a new motherboard. A new socket was never officially said, but they said it will require more voltage ad stabilizing pins with much more restrictive timing and voltage specifications. I guess it will just use unused pins in the old socket, but it still seems odd that no one has officially stepped up and claimed P4 3GHz supports.

How can you officialy support a cpu that's not even out yet?

Wait till the 3ghz cpu comes out then we will know what boards officialy support them.

I was under the impression that the 845PE or GE added offical HT support and some extra voltage. I was also under the impression that you needed the 845PE or GE to run the p4 3ghz.

IT appears that the 845 G (not the A steeping ) will support HT and I think all chipsets can support the 3 ghz but not HT necessarily.

No one said or thought that new voltage stabilization pins would require a new chipset

All chipsets will support 3GHz, but not THE 3GHz HT-enabled P4 Intel will be selling. The latest issue of MaximumPC claims that HT will debut with the 3GHz P4 and that it will run on XP Home Edition DESPITE the lack of dual-CPU support. Also, it will require "a new motherboard." PC Magazine directly conflicts with this information, claiming that Intel warned MS that Home Edition would restrict performance of these single CPUs for HOME users, and that MS ignored them. In THIS article, you can watch a video of an Intel's own Bill Siu saying that both XP Home and Pro will benefit from HT.

require 'new motherboard' ............. they forgot to include 'if you own a motherboard w/ old chipset like 845sdr. or sis645 .. etc'
