Hormel chili changed some time in the '90s and has sucked ever since. In fact, I can't find any chili that tastes like all chili used to in the late '80s and early '90s.

I hate it when they change food. Plus everything is soaked in a corn syrup bath these days - sodas, baked beans, pancake syrup, even canned fruit. Apparently most people don't notice the difference, but...bleh.

Fall in line. Support the almighty and benevolent corn industry.

I was thinking I thought I had a brain tumor once.
I had a allergic reaction to mildew once and the next day all I could smell was strawberries at work and nothing but strawberries! The sweet smell got so bad that it got me dizzy and I had to run to the bathroom.

I hope I never experience that ever again!

The reason is because corn syrup is cheap, and it has to be. The US government chose that as the crop of America. They subsidize it heavily and pay farmers not to grow anything else. This is so if ever there is a problem getting food into America (some kind of war, huge embargo, etc), the US people will have a crop ready to sustain food supplies and we won't have mass starvation. This has caused a side effect of every food processor switching to using corn syrup, as it is cheaper than sugar and gives similar enough effects.

I can't imagine what it would be like living in the US with a corn allergy. =(

We switched to Method brand detergents a while back and we really like the extremely gentle scent.

No advice for you on the kerosene pickles.

Cocoa Pebbles used to be an awesome cereal, and then at some point the taste and quality changed, I'd find 1/4 of what I poured would just sink to the bottom of the bowl and taste stale.

It's rough man. I'm not anaphylactic, but I basically feel like garbage for about two days straight - sharp painful headache, stomachache (feels like I swallowed a bag of gravel), sinuses feel bruised (like I got punched in the face), the works. It's more of an intolerance than an allergy...I can tolerate stuff like ketchup once a week (they all have corn syrup), but if I drink a full soda, that's a guaranteed headache.

It's crappy because they hide it under a hundred different names. Even the Mexican sodas like sugarcane Sprite has corn in it (citri"c" acid). They use it for Vitamin C as well, plus stuff like ascorbic acid in fruit juices. Such a pain. On the plus side, I now frequent H&F on a regular basis because I don't feel like such a loaf all the time

To be fair, the price difference is about $8 for the fake stuff vs. the real stuff, and kids go through that junk like mad, so economically it makes more sense.

Makes me wonder how long it will be until corn becomes a common allergy. Same thing happened with wheat...stick it in everything & people get allergic to it (in the time that I've been off gluten, it's gone from 1 in 133 to 1 in 100 Americans have an allergy to wheat/gluten).

I gave up. I just grill now

Brand-name Cheerios and similar (like Fruit Loops) also went downhill, and not long ago. Now when I get knockoffs for half the price, I'm actually getting a superior cereal (though half of my cold c ereal eating is plain shredded wheat...).

Where are you getting those numbers for wheat? Let's be honest, 99% of the gluten free buyers are fucking idiots who don't have a gluten allergy.

Not quite. True, corn is heavily subsidized, but the bigger reason HFCS is used as a sweetener is that the US government imposes very heavy tariffs on imported sugar, which artificially inflates the price of sugar. Of course, this policy is continued only because of very heavy lobbying by domestic sugar producers.

Lots of places, like the Mayo Clinic, have the upgraded 1 in 100 number:

I really don't know why anyone would willingly go off gluten. There's bread, pizza, dinner rolls, donuts, croissants, etc. Waaaaaay too much good stuff to deprive yourself of! :awe:

Can't you get Simply Heinz? Around here it is basically the same price as the regular Heinz with HFCS.

We also drink soda with cane sugar only. No HFCS or diet. $2.99 for a 12 pack of 12 oz. cans.

I love H-E-B.

I hadn't seen they revised the numbers.

And, people willing go off gluten because they are idiots. It is the next health food fad; fueled by idiots willing to pay extra for anything more "healthy".

I could never go totally off bread. I fucking love the stuff. Anything made of dough is just amazing.

But I'm allergic to corn (srs)

Industry "representatives" will be there shortly. Please go along with them willingly. We can't have you out there slandering corn's reputation.

All hail Corn.
