Seriously why buy way more paper plates than you need. That's on you not Costco.

Like I said I'm alone in my household and I get very specific products at specific times and It's worth it. You just can't buy anything that has way too much than your household is likely to use.

Also around here for the first time in forever starting next month only Costco members can get gas. Before anyone could get gas. Another plus.
I don't buy more paper plates than I need, it's called self-control, so there is no problem.

We belong to Sam's and Costco, but Sam's is much closer, and that is the bulk of our shopping. I can pay back my membership with only a few items. Savings on toilet paper and paper towels alone more than cover the membership fee. Plus with a plus membership my cash back every year covers the membership fee again.

Sam's gas has been members only for many years.

Sam's has also embraced technology, pay at pump with your phone, scan items as you shop with your phone, and skip the checkout line.

Probably $10-$15 less for a similar producst. But I've only seen the Langers Mango Nectar 1 gallon ($5.99) at Costco.

$7.45 via Instacart ; $19,99 at Amazon.
For the same quantity of the meat and fish, I doubt that.

Item by item, Sam's groceries are 30%+ cheaper than the local major grocery chain. Chicken thighs at Sam's 98¢/lb, grocery store $1.99/lb. Sarah Lee Bread $4.98 for 2 loaves, vs. $7.18 for 2 loaves.

$62 and my cart is overfilled and won't hold any more. Haven't done that in a couple of years. Last store run was closer to $30 and was more than I went for since I found a couple of sales like 24 ounce cottage cheese for a buck each.

Use neighborhood employee owned stores/franchises and avoid name brand products.

I get pooh paper for $5 for 12 rolls and basic bread for under a buck a loaf. Fancy bread might be a buck and a half.

And I buy bacon ends and pieces. Same stuff, same taste, a third the price. Don't need neat purdy strips laid out all fancy like.

We finally got a Costco here, and it is too busy to shop there. Perhaps when the newness dies down.

I think they only build these in higher population areas so naturally it's always super busy. Closest one to me is in Sudbury. About 3 hours.

I go to Costco on weekdays just to avoid the crowd. We used to go once a week, now, once a month for eggs, some frozen meats, vegetables, and bread. The price for milk has gone up and a few times the HEB (local grocery chain) was actually cheaper than Costco. Some of the bulk items we used ot buy have gone up so much we only buy if they are on sales.

i love costco.
kerrygold butter is super cheap there. bulk ground beef and chicken to be broken into smaller parts and frozen for family meals throughout the week, really inexpensive. milk is pretty cheap as well, as are eggs.

but i dont, like, "grocery shop" there. once in a while, we might pick out something a little extra, like brownie bites. but i usually go for just a handful of things.

it's not super close but since i get my membership for free through work, its definitely worth it.

Gotta be honest, I’m not digging Costco.
Admittedly:
It is a long boring tedious drive from home to Costco
Two people in our house makes bulk buying stupid
I don’t like bulk buying, I don’t like the refrigerator packed full of stuff, I refuse to buy a freezer or storage chest, I don’t like looking at stacks and stacks of cleaning supplies or TP or whatever
I don’t like the mess and the chaos that is inside Costco when I’ve gone.
I can see how that would make it unappealing. One Costco is a ten minute drive from my house, and the other is fifteen. I'm mostly shopping for myself, and mostly buy things there I can't buy anywhere else (Motor City Pizza, multi-packs of cheese-stuffed bacon wrapped chicken, etc).
But I have definitely learned to only go on weeknights, never on a weekend.

how do they catch cheaters?
ie: with 30+ items in cart, skip scanning an item

I am certain it happens, just like when using self checkout. Their analytics undoubtedly indicated that they would still save millions over all of the costs and issues associated with human employees performing the tasks. For example: removing the hassle of the checkout line, and not having to unload my cart an extra time, has encouraged me to shop there more often.

Exit checker does the same as people that use a manned checkout or self-check POS. They scan a QR code on your phone, then do their count and a couple of items to make sure they match.

That represent poor maintenance of both ends of your GI tract. Bread is more than something to hold the peanut butter, and crappy crap paper is just that, crappy.

If I lived alone like Krammer I would phone it in on cooking

That huge can of tuna
2ibs Cellentani pasta
Mayo to desired amount. I would use 3 cups for a batch that sized.
Large bag of sweet peas steamed
a few stalks of celery sliced thin
A tablespoon of Cajun seasoning
A fair amount of those black olives sliced
Chill in refrigerator for a couple of hours

Proceed to basically live off of it for a few days.
