You could also try putting them in the freezer for a few minutes. Be careful though, this only works the the first few. After you've had 7 or 8, you're at a much higher risk for the cans exploding in your freezer

It seems that you could do the same thing by filling up your sink, or a bucket, with cold water and ice; then spinning the can with your hand.

Ya, this is the way to go. Much faster than puttin the can in the freezer. Reason behind it, I think is that water is a much better thermal conductor than air.
For the same reason, that's why you should always have a full stock of beer in your fridge. It's easier to keep liquid cold than air, so u'll save $$ on your electricity bill. (and always have cold beer ready at all time)
anyhow, i'm not a physic major so dunt yell at me if anything i say is incorrect.

The idea works but paying $30 for the thing is ludicrous. I got a device that does the same thing (probably still have it around somewhere) on closeout at some store for like $5. Then it was worth it as that's about the cost it would be to make something like this. Really it would be a simple matter of getting the following parts:
Suction cup (to attach to top of can)
12V Motor (or lower voltage if need be) to turn the can (duh)
Some kind of container to hold the can & ice
Simply attach the motor to a swingarm on the container and attach the suction cup to the end of the motor. Then you simply put the can in the container, surround it with ice, drop the motor & turn it on.
That's if you're lazy and you need to have something mechanical do it, same principle works if you insert it into a bucket of ice or some other container, twirl it with your hand for about 30 seconds and you're good to go.
