Sick of Jailbreaking my iPhone

Every time I have to update the phone with new firmware, I lose all my progress in my apps including games.

I am going back to factory default so I don't have to deal with this anymore.

Anyone else share this sentiment?

EDIT: I do miss the option to place 5 icons though, wish Apple would add that option (4 or 5 icons) in future firmware.

there are too many jailbreak apps i need to give up jailbreaking... i need some kind of tethering.. i use pdanet and the hacked carrier info...

I have an unlocked iPhone that I haven't jail broken since pre 3.0 - no need, the App store has pretty much all you need.

Eh I don't believe you have to do a full restore. Just update then restore from backup and use AptBackup on Cydia to restore your jailbreak apps and settings. Not that bad. I don't have any games via Cydia just a few apps like Intelliscreen, BiteSMS, Backgrounder, and SBSettings. Most everything I can live without. I just hate the fact that I have to exit out of apps to text, etc... Only niggles but enough that I still jailbreak.

After 3.0 I have not needed to jailbreak. I was only jusing jailbreak for backgrounding IM. Push took care of that for me.

I need backgrounding for my streaming music. I listen 8+ hours a day at work and hate having to close out, do what I need to do (email, etc), then log back in.

Only one reason I jailbreak: Skype over 3g. As an American living in Europe, it saves me a fortune.

I use T-Mobile prepaid with mine, so I had to jailbreak it in order to unlock it. Updating the firmware will remove the jailbreak, but I don't know if it'll remove the unlock/abiltity to use T-Mobile.

Does anyone know for sure?

DO NOT UPDATE to 3.1. It changes the baseband and they haven't figured out how to circumvent that unlock yet. iPhone Dev Team is working on a work around in their upcoming Pwnage Tool which will keep the old baseband and update the other firmware features, so stay tuned for that.

You can't downgrade back to the 3.0 baseband, so if you upgrade you are stuck without an unlock.

I typically don't jump onto the "xx firmware killed my battery" threads .. but since I've upgraded to 3.1 my battery is draining at a ridiculous pace. The shitty part is, now I can't go back because of this whole business with Apple not allowing that anymore. I'm tempted to go to the Genius Bar and have them give me a 3.0.1 phone until this gets ironed out. I've tried everything from a full restore to get it to work properly ...

I've kinda noticed the battery depletion as well. Weird. I'm not sure what's causing it. I thought it was my Gmail account, but that hasn't fixed anything by disabling it's fetch. Hm... maybe it really is 3.1.

You should never do any of the Apple updates!! Always wait until whoever did your unlock software gives the ok, and continue to use their method.

Made myself an appt at the GB .. going to see if I can get a phone with 3.0.1 on it .. 3.1 has given me nothing but headaches so far.

I suggest Purplera1n. I had always used Pwnage tool on Windows and it was a pain. With Purplera1n, you click one button and you are good to go.

Jailbroken 3gs on 3.0

I've been resisting the urge to go to 3.1...don't really want to mess up my phone, since I'm currently not in the States and while I could probably just go DFU to get out of trouble I'd rather not try.

I thought purplera1n was too easy to jailbreak. In fact, I thought I did something wrong because it was so quick and painless. Anyway, from what I've seen, there's virtually no reason for me to upgrade my 3GS from 3.0 to 3.1, especially since I have both MMS and native tethering on my phone right now WITH jailbreaking. Best of all worlds IMO.
