Sick of JL Gatsby? You don't have to see his posts anymore with this script I wrote.

Wow. Hate much?

I mean, yes, he does have his . . . peculiar opinions, but is it necesssary to go to such lengths? I mean I don't particualrly agree with the guy but come on, seriously. Whatever happened to this being an open community?

I find this sad. I shouldn't really threadcrap, but I do not condone this. Not one bit.

I modified the script like you said I could, and well.......why has the whole of ATOT disappeared for me?!?!?!?!?!

Seriously though, as tempting as this may be it's still fun to poke at the little b@stard every now and then.

Can't it filter by the user's id?

Feel free to reverse engineer the output of fusetalk if you like, it's harder than it might sound.

Could you make it only filter words from the author column perhaps?

The script runs on the client side. Anyone using the script will be removing threads on their on machines. You shouldn't be affected.

What the................... That is so stupid. Part of posting is to read and debate the good and bad by all. And for you to post something like this a joke. If you can't beat him at posting, then you can't, but don't cry like a biatch and take your ball home. Give me a break.

Oh I know... I'm just saying I don't know if I would use it myself or not.

Would you like me to link to some of Gatsbys so called "debates"?

IMO the script needs to minimized the post instead of deleting it, sort of like the ignore feature in phpbb message boards. I'm not sure if this is possible, but it would be nice in case you need a quick laugh by reading one of Gatsby's posts.

Yeah, I mean, how much can it really bother you. If you see a post/thread by him just pass over it.

although JLGatsby seems like a stupid moron who pretends he knows everything, he is somewhat entertaining when he gets owned.

He's been torn apart in every thread he attempts to "debate". A lieing little child who's only reason is to troll every single thread on this forum really isn't welcome.
It's no longer him stateing his opinions, it's him intentionally writing posts that play into this alter ego he created on this forum in order to straight up troll. It was amusing for a couple weeks, now it's just tiresome.

True... but I dunno... it seems like it's almost part of ATOT culture to feed this particular troll. It's like it's somehow accepted. I don't care one way or the other... I laugh at him plenty. But I think a lot of what people say about him wouldn't be allowed if it were directed at someone else. It's kinda like... he's the guy you're expected to, and allowed to, dump on. The universal punching bag!

No thanks, you're the code monkey, you do it! Think of it as a community service and making up for lax govt. worker time.

Couldn't you filter JL Gatsby only out of the username title and not out of the body of the post?
So just his posts would not appear at a minimum and if you wanted you could implement the full on script to remove all mention of him.
If someone has his name in a signature, the thread disappears to you, which would probably make many threads/posts disappear?

It doesn't remove entire threads from the forum listing, it just removes individual posts from inside threads.

So if another user has JL Gatsby in their signature will the post be removed? Of if that word is mentioned anywhere?

Like shawn and I asked, do you think it's possible to just filter out by the author column?

Yea but thats not my point? That is part of the freedom of posting, its not all good. But its really small to make a script to remove a person's posts. No offense but if someone's life is that impacted by what they read on forum board, forget the damn script, that person needs some freaking counseling, seriously, no pun or sarcasm at all.

Yes, it will remove that post, and yes, it's probably possible to only remove stuff based on the author column.

Well yeah, of course I won't - and like I said, I don't want to threadcrap and I apologize, but I'd think that this was a pretty extreme option to take: partially because you're basically calling him out by posting this and everyone's stepping in and flaming him when he's not even here to defend himself.

That really bothers me - the fact that everyone's coming in and badmouthing him when he's not even on.

Regardless of who it is, I'd hate to see any regular posters getting intentionally snubbed by a majority of the forums, maybe in part because it means it could happen to me, or anyone.

Just my $0.02

You know when I read this I can't help but to think of the community meltdwon a few years ago when the whole DF thing went down. Most of us don't really know 99% of the people we argue with and talk trash to on the internet. And to to be dominated by it where it affects your life is just sad and it is not healthy. To be so impacted by a persons post to the point where you write a script to get rid of the persons posts is distrubing. And I am serious about that.
