I hate the Inquirer, they're a bunch of idiots. nobody ever seems to remember all of the wrong things they've predicted, because they predict nearly everything so they obviously have to get something right.
anywho, I've avoided posting in these damn video card rumor threads just because they come from the Inquirer, and I disagree with their info anyway.
first of all, why would ATi break from their naming scheme?? it doesn't make any sense to name the NV250 a Radeon 9000, becuase it's a freakin DirectX 8 part. IMHO it should and will still be in the 8xxx series. only one thing makes me shaky on this and that's the pictures of supposed RV250s (they could be R300s for all I know) with a box behind it saying Radeon 9000 or whatever.. either those are made up to show that they'll be selling a R300 based board, or ATi has totally screwed up it's naming scheme even more (I got really confused with the 7xxx series after the 7500 was released).
and as for naming the R300 a Radeon 9700, I find that hard to believe because that only leaves room for 9800 and 9900 which if ATi is going to be following any pattern by releasing 2 high end cards will both be taken up, meaning the R300 won't be able to be re-released without it being a lower number. that doesn't follow logic IMHO.
as for the RV250 benches we have seen, I'm sortof surprised at them (if they're true) but it seems quite possible that they are true becuase no-one says the RV250 has to be faster than the R200 (though I'd obviously like it to be faster). this is yet another reason why I just can't see the RV250 being called Radeon 9000.
as for which will be faster, to me it is pretty obvious.. if nVidia is right about not being able to produce this on .15 micron and ATi is ready to go (and confident their part will not be overheating or too power hungry) then it seems to me that nVidia's chip will at least have more transistors, and most likely because of that, be at least more flexible for programmers, and possibly faster (due to larger caches, which it seems obvious to me are the reason the NV25 is top of the hill and not the Radeon 8500 or GF3 Ti500).
anywho those are my many cents on this bloody mess, and I wish people wouldn't link to the Inquirer OR Rage3D for this kind of news because they're either biased, or not terribly reliable for info at all.
