To be honest with you, I havn't really liked Civ since Civ 2. In all the later ones things like resources are hidden until you find a technology that would exploit them. Except that the AI always knows where these things are located as they always have a city to cover the places even though they don't have the technology that would allow them to otherwise see it. And I personally just hate that since their early citys are then much better prepared later in the game than yours are.

Railroads sucked horribly. Really, I think I'd need DOSBox to run a _good_ bundle from Sid, because the games would all date from the 90's.

Makes sense. What good was finding iron ore in the stone age? Hell, we didn't do crap with aluminum until the late 1800's.

Again, I wouldn't hate it so much if the AI didn't already have cities ON those resources even though they don't have the tech yet to reveal that it was a resource.

Kinda stinky that they're doing Civ V as Civ V + Gods and Kings instead of just the gold version. You'll still be missing some DLC with Civ V + Gods and Kings + Brave New World.

I also heard that Civ V Complete is being released soon.

I'm in for a dollar to get another copy of Civ4.

They needed all that DLC as the add-on for next week.

I really haven't noticed that in Civ V BNW.

In fact, in my last couple of games, it's been quite the opposite. It will be funny to see the AI founding cities out in the middle of nowhere only after a source of oil has been discovered.

Or sending out a settler to some tiny little island only after uranium has been revealed.

Only things I don't have are Brave New World and Railroads...not sure I'd drop $15 for them :|

I don't have any of that stuff, and have wanted to play Civ V for a while. $20 for it all is pretty sweet.

It's definitely a good deal for fans of the games. I was actually going to get it all but Brave New World, just because I wouldn't care to spend $15 without knowing I even like the franchise. However, that deal that $15 gets you the last expansion is throwing off the average price of the bundle, sadly. It's sitting at $8.75 at the moment, which is still more than I care to throw at a franchise I have no experience with--especially when I'm generally not a turn-based person.

Also, to the person saying that the next week will bring the DLC of the Gold Edition, I don't think so. They have always said that more stuff was coming next week In the past, but I don't see that message on there now.

Yeah, my experience in Civ V is the AI will pretty aggressively settle tiny, awful cities simply to claim a aluminium/oil/uranium tile late game when they don't have it, which is basically random.

I have only played Civ III Gold. Was it ever changed to where low tech could not damage units with much higher tech. I never liked my tank taking damage from a guy with a spear. And seeing guys with spears win a battle against guys with guns drove me nuts.

They technically do damage but the military unit strength 'curve' as tech increases makes it so that more advanced units pretty expertly stomp old units. I actually think the curve is a little too harsh and gives even more advantage to players ahead in Tech which is already quite strong.

Well in Civ III I don't remember them stomping low tech units. I actual think I lost some tanks or at least military vehicles to spear men and such, which I would think should be impossible.

i felt the opposite.

tbh, when i lost a battleship to a chicken (settler),i went ballistic, also because the Ai cheated like a rotten b.. but it was fun. it was less technical, less realistic, but suited the gameplay better. i didn't like all the changes brought in with Civ 3 and later. Imho, Civ 2 was the best of the series, improving on Civ 1 in every way and not detracting anything from the original.

What i really want, is a new, optimized version of Civ 2, where the Ai doesnt cheat but plays well. Thats all i ask of Sid Meyer.
And if get it, i'll even pretend i liked Civ 5.

@ anyone who doesnt like getting their battleship wrecked by settlers:

I'm looking forward to trying BNW. Civ 5 was pretty decent, but it didn't grab me like previous versions did. Been playing since Civ 1 and Civ 2 was probably my most played. One of the biggest problems with Civ 5 is the slowness for completely turns later in the game, don't know why they can't get a handle on that.

I'm planning on starting with Civ IV after reading that it's relatively different from Civ V (but is still good). Can I just start with the latest expansion, or would I be better off starting with the original Civ IV?

Absolutely start with all the expansions. No point in playing vanilla anymore, as the expansions vastly improve on it all around.

That's true, they change the gameplay some vs. vanilla, but almost without exception they add more richness to the game.

Welp...

This game is addicting as fuck. Since installing it-

- Played 34 hours in 4 days
- Slept very little
- Destroyed the world with the Celts

Overall, sweet bundle.

Downside: Must uninstall.

There is a reason why some of us call these games 'Just One More Turn Until Dawn' games.
