Speaking of qualifications, a majority of commentators were former players, coaches or were otherwise involved with the game. This is another reason you see no women in the booth. These people have real insight because they've been around the game so much longer and more intimately. The sideline reporters usually sound like they're reading off of a script or very rarely go into detail when describing a team's strategy, whereas a booth comentator will walk through diagrams or describe why the formation a team is choosing is being used, etc.

men would rather listen to men talking about sports. its what the viewing audience wants, it has nothing to do with the industry holding them down.

looking for a booth job? try to drum up female interest in these sporting events. then the networks might be able to validate giving you that job.

I lost all faith in sideline reporters when I found out that the team gives the injury report to the producers who mic it in the sideline reporters. Except between halfs, the sideline reporters don't actually talk to anyone on the sideline. They are prohibited from doing so.

I too hate sideline reporters. Some woman has done the booth for a few games for my school and I hated it. I found myself muting or turning off the game a lot earlier than I normally would to get away from the female voice and the stupid comments she made.
