Porn / Trash
Not worth the price of the theatre ticket. In reality this is an X rated film. Unbelievable that it was nominated for Best Picture. Hollywood standards have really dropped.

Suited for Sailors Only
How offensive. Depicts people who are unable to communicate except in the neanderthal gruntings of foul language and sexual acting out.

We have come full circle in our "evolution", back to the time when cavemen where the most brilliant and artistic creatures on earth. Who needs college?

Make no mistake: scenes in this movie can make many veyr uncomfortable. The movie is part porn, part black humor and mostly not funny. It is one of these artzy movies you come out embarrassed to say it "sucked" because you've convinced someone to watch an alternative "smart" movie. Don't bother: it's not.

I think the best review summary kinda encapsulated a lot of these reviews:

"NOT A 'RED STATE' MOVIE"

wow.. Talk about one tracked people... They're total snobs or anti-sex or horny or anti-art. The fact that they rated the movie with any F grade indicates to me that they weren't paying attention to things (visuals, for one), or they were expecting a totally different movie.

1. It wasn't just about sex, though there are parts about/with sex.
2. It doesn't have just neanderthal grunts, there was intelligent conversation (more than in MOST movies).
3. This is a movie about two GUYS. Don't expect any action after seeing this movie.
4. Don't watch this movie for typical hollywood humor. Don't watch it if you don't like concentrating and listening.

Uh... oscars are decided by the academy, not just critics. In fact, critics are a very small percentage of the academy. I don't know how anyone can dispute that the american public is being force fed horse crap given that national treasure is one of the top grossing films of the year.

i think i was about 10 years and 1 divorce away from the target audience who loved this movie so much. Some of it was funny, and it was original, but I just couldn't relate to this movie.

Shoulda seen The Aviator.

I'm not the target audience either (same as you), but I enjoyed it a lot. I don't think you have to relate to any of the characters. Miles and Jack are two polar extremes.

I enjoyed the characters because I could see what their passions were, what their insecurities were, their little quirks. The characters were very well developed and that's unusual to see in movies now. It wasn't hollywood with fake people and happy ending where everybody changes (becomes perfect) and lives happily ever after. It's also not a Napoleon Dynamite.

One particular scene I liked was at the end when Miles was talking to Victoria at the wedding. Victoria tells Miles that she is pregnant and you can see Mile's face/mouth twitch and the veins on his forehead get bigger. He voice cracks and he tries to manage a happy response. I thought this was amazing acting in that he managed to pull you in and make you feel and realize his pain.

After a second viewing, I realized more of his pain. He is not only shocked and disappointed that he can't have her anymore, but he is envious. He is envious that he did not have a child with her when they were married. In a scene in the middle of the movie, he is talking to Maya and jokingly says that he was lucky to have gotten out of the marriage without kids. At the first viewing, I thought he was really joking, but the second time made me see that he was hurt and trying to play it off.

Anyways, I think this movie has a lot of little details to think about and analyze. Other movies don't make me think about their characters too much, or let me think about the character too long (too much action/plot). I haven't see Ray or Aviator yet, so I can't compare.

yea theres a bit of the lost in translation vibe ot this movie. some people think its "deep".. others just are unmoved at all... i found it entertaining i guess, but no where near great. juist a story of a poor wine geek sob on a road trip with freaky buddy movie.

i must not be deep enough because all i thought was "boy maya's a lot hotter than victoria" That sounds like something Jack would say, but I just hated that guy for being such a scumbag. I didn't get why he and Miles were so close after all those years since Miles obviously had a problem with his lack of scruples.

I'm a blow the hell up, laugh your ass off, or get scared sh!tless type of a person movie wise, but I just saw Sideways tonight and god, this was a fantastic movie. Honestly, one of my top 5 movies of all time, along with American Beauty, American Pie, T2, and a few other movies.

I am wondering what the significance of the wine in the movie is about - it can't just be to get people off on wine, there has to be something more than that. Or am I looking into it too much?

Anyway it was a great movie. Hilarious in some parts, but kept me analyzing the movie the whole way through and even 2 hours after the movie now.
