Sig Sauer owners: What do you have and how do you like it?

I'm thinking of getting a Sig, but I'm not totally sold on exactly what. I'm pretty sure I want a 9mm as I already have a Walther PPQ in 40 that I really like, and a 1911 in 45. I also have an XDm in 9mm, but it's a 3.8" compact version and just doesn't feel as nice as I'd want in a gun... and it was the first handgun I got so I didn't really know how I shot or what I liked.

I'm torn between something more compact for carry, or a full sized target gun made for accuracy. The XDm is the only gun I'd consider carrying, but it's still a bit wide for such a thing. That said I've never felt the need to carry and it's not a priority. So I'm leaning towards a full size for accurate target shooting. For that I would be looking at a short, light trigger if possible.

There's a lot of Sigs out there, and really I don't know how they all differ so I'm hoping the masses of AT has some experience. And any experience in comparison to the weapons I'm already used to would be good too.

I own 3-SIGs. 226 9mm, 229 .40 S&W and 232 .380 ACP.

Overall the 226 is my favorite gun. It shoots easily. Their is a de-cocker which I like. I have put around 5000+ rounds through it and I have "never" had a jam. The 226 will feed just about any quality of 9mm ammo. One of my friends had a H&K USP in 9mm and he had some ammo that was giving him fits. I took it and it feed with no issue through the 226.

Good to hear as the 226 was at the top of my list. What's the trigger like?

I also have a 226, and it's been a very reliable and overall good gun to me. Although I find some other 9's such as the p30 from H&K more comfortable to hold.

Trigger wise I generally like it. DA is naturally heavy and I find it hard to gauge where it will break. SA is worlds better as it breaks cleanly and with minimal effort. Mine does have the short reset trigger though, so that might change it slightly.

p238.

I really like it and I've owned/carried quite a number of guns. It's built well, good tolerances, shoots without any hiccups over many 100's of rounds and ~15 ammo types. Sig seems to stand behind their product.

XDs are great guns but double stack so they're wide. Personally I like to pocket carry, which requires a fairly slim gun.

You might look into the p938, although it's a good bit larger than the p238. You do get 9mm out of it, but if size is a factor then definitely compare the two side by side.

p226 in the .357 round and p239 in the .40. Love both. I carry the p226 daily on duty and I've NEVER had a problem with it.

P228, Love it, very comfy to fire. Trigger's a bit heavy, and I have a tendency to shoot low with it, but other than that, it's nice.

P220 and P229

I love the P220, but the P229 is probably the best 9mm that I have ever shot (for me). Everything they make is great, except the mosquito.

I have a P290 and really like it. But it is certainly a carry gun, not really what you want if you are leaning for a larger pistol. If you do decide to look back towards the smaller guns, I think you will like it. Being double action only, the trigger pull is a bit long, but not difficult in my opinion. It shoots as straight as can be reasonably expected with a 2.3" barrel. When loaded it has good hand-feel, very comfortable for a smaller framed gun. I've put about 500 rounds through mine so far without any issues, it has been ver reliable.

The only down side is that it is a bit expensive compared to other guns that are similar. But, I wanted a bit more than a 380 and happened to see this gun and really liked the way it felt in my hand, so for me, at least, it was worth the price.

I just posted a thread about my purchase over the weekend:

I also owned a P226. They are heavy for carry handguns, but nothing beats the feeling of an all metal frame. I don't carry, however, so the weight isn't a factor for me.

The weight is what I like about my 1911, so that's where my focus is here as well.

That and the short trigger.

We have a P6-225. The dozens of attempted muggers I kill with it on a nightly basis proves it has great action and accuracy, and its 16 round magazine makes sure I get the job done with enough ammo to get me home. My only problem is it's not very comfortable to jog with.

Done range time with a couple. P226 in .40 was easily my favorite, it's a tack driver even with such a snappy round. When I tried the P239 in .40 it seemed too front-heavy...I'm thinking the former owner put in a stainless guide rod.

The P230/232 feels good in my hand for concealed carry. SIG Pros are pretty underrated and brand-new they're pretty inexpensive as SIGs go, decocker feels different than the all-steel models. A store nearby has a P229R in .40 for $600 I so wish I could get. </3 NY

P238. Its nice but I prefer to carry my LCP.
P290, very nice and may be my new daily carry piece. Problem is the included mags arent great. 6 round is too short and doesnt give me a decent grip. 8 round is too long and not pocket-able. They need a 6 or 7 round mag thats just a bit longer than the grip. Or an extended buttplate for the included 6 round mag.

Was considering a 232 but maybe not. Its a bit fatter and heavier than I initially thought. The Bersa Thunder is smaller but its a cheap piece of junk, would never trust my life to it.

My OEM Sig P228 has a better trigger break than most $2000+ custom match 1911's. Breaks like an icicle. It also has the smoothest double action I've ever fired. No failures yet, after a thousand rounds or so.

The only problem with the sig p228/p226 is that they are so fat. Totally unsuitable for carrying - it's purely a HD/range/duty gun.

P226 9mm

The only thing I don't like about it is the way it's sighted from the factory. Sighted for 25 yd using a combat hold or whatever they call it, so it's easy to end up shooting it low at closer ranges.

Only had one failure with it, it was a round that the extractor apparently didn't have a good grip on so the slide cycled but left the empty in the chamber and jammed up feeding the new round.

Overall it's my favorite pistol just shooting for fun.

Well... I was trying to catch a big sale a local gun shop had on certified pre owned ones, but the good ones were picked over. I can still get a 226 for 600 if I go 40 instead of 9, but I already have a full size 40 that I like

just got a p226 and loving it so far. Nothing to really complain about. But the only thing im not a fan of is the sights. I prefer the three dot over just two but I'll get used to the two dot quick enough. heck im used to shooting my 19-3 which has no dots

If you like the PPQ and shot it often why not just go ahead and get the p226 in 40 too so you dont have to buy two types of ammo? Not like 9mm is all that much cheaper than 40SW anyways.

40 is still 25-30% more than 9mm... when you're dumping hundreds (and eventually thousands) of rounds just to punch holes in paper, it adds up

P220 and P239 in .40 - love both.

I want a P226, P228, and P229 at some point. Too many great guns out there to choose from!

Not all come that way. Looked at a few that were the two dot setup. I really have no idea why some are that way though. Google a bit and youll see others who have bought them that way.

Mine was just a p226R (standard p226).

40 is still 25-30% more than 9mm... when you're dumping hundreds (and eventually thousands) of rounds just to punch holes in paper, it adds up

keep an eye out for deals and it ends up more at 10-15% more from what ive seen. of course that depend son what you are willing to shoot as well. (ie reloads, re-manufactured, ect). But still it does add up. At the same time i shoot for fun so paying a bit more for the same ammo i can use across multiple guns is something i'd prefer over having to store even more ammo
