Sigh....dead pixel

I just got a Philips 190S5FB from New Egg and it is truely a beautiful product. it looks great, plays City of Heroes with no ghosting. All is fine except it has a dreaded dead pixel almost dead center of the screen. If it were dead and black it wouldn't be as bad, except it is white and drwas the eye to it hypnotically when ever I watch movies that have dark scenes.

Is anyone familiar with Philips dead pixel return policy?? I know Newegg will not take it back unless it has 8 dead pixels minimum.

Its still a good monitor and I could probably live with it if it were black, or at least off to the side of the screen.

Bummer...

It does suck when it's in the center.

I would also contact Phillips but i doubt they will replace it.

This is one of the reasons I'm sticking with CRT. Until LCD manufacturers can guarantee that the image I'd get with their display is equal to/better than a comparable CRT I'm staying away.

thats why i never ever but LCDs anywhere but B&M, i got a ViewSonic VX190 (19" 16ms) and had a single stuck white pixel on teh e left hand side, took it right back to BB told em that it had a bad pixel, other people might not care, but i do. THe y took it I got a Sony SDM HS94P (19" 12MS) and (luckly) got one with no bleeding problems (week 49) and not a single dead, or stuck pixel.

Folks unless you get a monitor from Monitors Direct (www.monitorsdirect.com) or some other site that has a really good return policy, then stick with B&M and play yhe extra $40 or $50 for taxes, so you can at least have the convienence to return the monitor to some 17yr old at BB that could care less.

dude are you sure its dead? i thought dead pixels were black, and turned off basicly. STUCK pixels are a color, and can be massaged out. Am i right? try "massaging" the spot with a cloth, and put some pressure on it. it worked for my laptop screen.
good luck, and if it is dead, bummer
nick

edit: whoops should have looked above, problem already solved
hope your NEW one dosnt have any dead/stuck pixels

Be very careful "massaging" them. This can very often change how the anti-glare coating looks, since the screen flexes a bit when you do it. I have a friend that tried it with VERY light pressure. Now he has a very light "smudge" in the anti-glare coating at that place. So now he's looking at a stuck pixel AND a smudge.

I agree with the poster who said he's sticking with CRT for now. I am very anal about how my display looks. If my LCD developed even a single dead pixel, I would be FORCED to toss it directly in the bin. There is no possible way I could psychologically cope with that dead pixel staring at me all day!

In my opinion, that NewEgg policy is insane. I realize that they may have a problem returning them to their supplier, or to the manufacturer, but - my god, imagine paying $1000 for a monitor and having 7 dead pixels! Jesus... I'd be homocidal.

I had a pixel stuck on on my laptop screen and I "flicked" it (like you do to a paper football). It came back to life and has been fine for over a year.

Maybe it was luck...who knows...

I felt the same way until my CRT (A good CRT with high refresh) started killing my eyes and giving me headaches. I went out and bought an LCD. I think it is best to do it b$M I got a nice one on sale at bestbuy and am very very pleased. No more strain or headaches.

Yes they are paying the shipping, both ways. Hopefully the new one will be better. I could live with that one dead/stuck pixel if it were off to the side.

Yeah, I got a LCD because my CRT hurts my eyes and gives me headaches.
