i was on crossbay blvd (ny) driving toward jfk airport in moderate rain. its a 3 lane road. suddenly, a car (1st car) decides to make an illegal u-turn on a spot where theres a big no turn sign right in front of him. then 2nd car breaks in time and stops, 3rd car skids a little and stops in time, me (4th car) skids and stops with a good 8-10 inches from him. then... 1 second later, i get slammed from behind (5th car). my car jumps forward and slams into car#3, and he bumps into car#2. car#1 didn't get touched, completed his illegal u-turn and got away. :|

2nd and 3rd car had minial or no damage with each other, 3rd car and me (#4), he got a scar at the bottom of his back bumper, me my front is pushed all the way in against the engine, and my back bumper and left light are broken. 5th car has his whole front pushed in. 2nd and 3rd driver get out and yell at each other, i squeeze out of my car (door barely opens) and guy in front of me yells at me. i say i stopped in time, it was the guy behind me. guy behind me just says, "aw man, not again, i had this happen before too" (wtf man). policed was called and filed a report with them. 1 minute after this happened, 2 guys show up saying they a towing company and have a shop close by that they can bring my car to, and offered a temp car and stuff. of course now it had a smell of scam all over this situation now. so i ignored them and said no thanks. two police cars come a few minutes later, and tell us to pull to the side street. everyone gave their statements and exchanged insurance with the person that hit them from behind. all the while those two guys that have the towing shop are hovering around my car like vultures. the person that i slammed into in front of me refused to give me his insurance company, telling me he only had liability. so all i got was his drivers license information and plate# after a lot of complaining. the guy who hit me from behind had a little dog in the passenger seat too, and didn't seem to even try to brake. with that everyone left (those two tow company guys were still here trying to have us towed by them, going so far as saying they have a lot of my car model at their shop too). i called my insurance company and filed a case with them and gave them all the information i got from the other people involved. so now i have to wait and see what their response will be. until then, i won't be able to have the car towed to the shop until wednesday. i need my car everyday to get to work, so now i am just !@#$ed until then. all cars were sedans and mine was a coupe.

this is my first time being in an accident. seeing as how everything is, just what happens now...

CLIFF NOTES:
5 cars involved, left lane, illegal u-turn by first car, domino affect by last car, first car got away without a scratch. i got the most damage since hit by last car and sandwiched.

thats insane BS man... I dont see at all how you will be at fault, unless your state's MV laws say otherwise. If you've been a safe driver this probably wont make a differnece on your record. I'm young with a sports car, I had an accident that I was unable to legally contest (stop in the middle of a clover leaf b*tch!) and my insuance never budged from a comfy 1500$ a year... a bargain I consider for the piles of coverage I have just in case I do cause something horrible... Don't sweat it and your baby will be just fine in 2 months.

BIG WORD OF ADVICE:

If its drivable, ask them if you can keep it until its repair time, will often save 8 wees in the post winter months!

They are supposed to crumple...they're called "crumple zones" for a reason. It absorbs the force of the impact so your body doesn't have to.

yup, you have a car that doesnt crumple and YOU get the absorb all the shock of the impact
That happened to me once (I was the back car at fault). In my defence, it was raining and the tires on teh car I was driving (sisters car) were almost bare. I didnt know that, pumped the breaks with plenty of time to stop but the car just kept on sliding. Couldnt get any traction what so ever.
In the end, all people involved were level headed and we got it all taken care of.

Depends on if anyone got cited. Each company may consider it "following too closely" by each other.
