just wait until they remake Shawshank and The Godfather
oh, and they're also all going to be PG-13.
Shawshank...who cares.
Godfather would be blasphemy.

Yeah, this also.
I quit getting butthurt about remakes after Total Recall came out a few years ago. Sitting through that crapfest made me appreciate VerHoeven's version that much more. Same with the new Robocop -- though at least the new one was watchable compared to Total Recall.
Hollywood doing remakes is nothing new. Best case you'll see something great. Worst case it'll suck and you forget it even exists.
Because you either need a story everyone is familiar with (Harry Potter, Hobbit, etc.) else you need actors and actresses that everyone is familiar with. That's the way audiences are - that's what they go to.I dont understand the obsession with making shitty movies, regardless of whether they are remakes or not.
We have literally millions of books we could be using as high quality source material. Why does Hollywood keep producing garbage?
Scarface is ridiculously cheesy at times, and very dated, but not without it's charms I suppose. While I do think there are far too many sequels, reboots, and remakes lately, I don't have any strong feelings about this one.
This.

This is going to be fucking terrible as all shit.
That doesn't make any sense though. You're saying to judge it on its own merits, story, originality etc.. But wait if it has all that why even use the Scarface name?I bet it won't be. Just don't go in viewing it as a remake.

D: blasphemy!
The only thing that I thought was salvageable about FFC's Dracula was Oldman. Oh and those brief scenes with Tom Waits. Tom Waits is always awesome.
I think that is around the time that producers finally accepted that Keanu and Winona should never be allowed to stumble their way through British-accented characters again.

So, if you're talking about a book that would make an outstanding movie, if it's not a super-familiar book, then you need those well known actors and actresses... and you're $20 million in the hole before you start shooting. That's a huge gamble. One that the people in Hollywood don't have the balls to commit to.

Yeah, I am talking about FFC's Dracula with Gary Oldman, Winona Ryder, Anthony Hopkins, Keanu Reeves in '92.
I am also throwing in the latest Godzilla movie. I am glad they remade it - far better than original black & white.
Although it's two main protagonists were unknowns at the time, the movie pretty much launched Guy Pearce and Russell Crowe.Bullshit.
Everybody was NOT familiar with LA Confidential and it worked out fabulously.
Wait, it had big actors.
OK, never mind. Carry on.
what? no love for Shawshank? [granted, everyone knows the ending already, kinda like re-making 6th sense]
