18-35mm f1.8 DC at $799.

It is a stand alone in the APS-C market where the closes OEM lenses that are slightly wider and longer focal length and are 1 stop or more slower. Sigma coming in fighting by pricing it at $400-600 less than the Canikon counter part. And, the last but not least is that preliminary testing shown that it is sharper than many prime lenses in the same focal length.

I'm not holding my breath, but it would be a welcoming thing if Sigma deliver something to the affect in FF format as well.

I LOVE that Sigma is making this. I am sorely tempted to buy one myself. I'd sell my Nikon 35 probably to offset it. It would cover the 'wide angle fast prime' I've been wanting. Sigma is on a roll lately and if this lens is is even anywhere near the quality of their new 50 and 35mm primes (which people RAVE about) it should be a block buster lens.

Hopefully it also acts like a wake up call to Nikon...

quite amazing they were able to come out with a fast zoom lens like this at that price point! 16-35mm f/1.8! didn't even think it was possible hahahah

Sigma 35mm f/1.4

What is the USB? Does out help check focus issues?

The USB is the BEST thing to happen to photography since sliced bread (though we wouldn't know what to do with sliced bread)

It literally adjusts focus AT THE LENS level! meaning, you adjust your focus at focus distance in the lens, that corresponds to how your camera reacts to the lens. from the minimal focus distance, to infinity! Literally, my camera would have focus issues < 3ft, but spot on between 3-10 ft, and infinity. I don't believe a camera would be perfect with every lens that comes out of the factory. every camera reacts differently, whether it being your 70-200 f/2.8 VR/IS II or you 85 f/1.2L, or whatever high end lens you end up with!

I own the Sigma 35mm. I think it is fantastic.

The Full Frame one?

Sigma's latest 35mm Full Frame glass, I've heard, pretty much spanks every other 35mm lens out there.

It's one of the ones on my list of "I want this" - but getting some quality telephoto glass is my top priority, since I do have a far part of the wide and standard focal lengths covered so far (16-28, 50, 85 - FF, on D600).

Didn't even know it change in a non full frame one. Pretty sure mine is full frame. Currently I'm using it on the crop sensor so it's effectively the field of view of a 50 millimeter.

Well, lenses designed for Full Frame sensors work perfectly on Crop sensors.

But it's not the other way around - that 18-35 f1.8 is designed for the Crop sensors - so, without looking into further details, I can pretty much feel safe betting it'll have nasty vignetting if not a solid circle of image surrounded by pure black, when used with a Full Frame sensor (unless in Crop mode).

Which, for the price and details, makes sense. A lens that's that sharp, and that fast, and, oh, is also a zoom with good range, for that price?
The Tokina 16-28mm F2.8 is about the same price, and is quite lauded for that.

I am not a camera guru, so this is just one guy's amateur opinion; however, last week, I used a Canon SL1, crop sensor, and the Canon 85mm f/1.2L and the Sigma 35mm f/1.4. Looking at my images in Lightroom, there is really no way for me to tell which was shot with which unless I turn on the Exif information. It really is a hell of a lens and I like the way it looks.

holy crap, this is really nice looking. will await some comparisons vs my 35mm 1.8 nikon. this would be incredible to have the wide end for indoor group portraits etc.

wow I was thinking of getting a 35mm prime. Might get this instead. But have to see if it will be FF compatible as I also want to upgrade to a 6D
