There was a story on WLEX-TV in Lexington this morning about a street having all of the Bush signs stolen yesterday. Looks like B@stards are taking both sides in this case!!!

haha. I stole my neighbors Bush sign

I've been on a destructive bend lately... a few weeks ago, while walking home (at 3 am on a weeknight), I noticed that someone a few streets away from me had a confederate flag hanging in front of their house. I felt it was my duty to take it down and cut it in half.

In New Jersey? lol

see, that's why I tore it down if it were down south, I could at least make the culture argument.

Four sign-stealing Cornerstone students apologize
http://www.mlive.com/news/grpr...17/109785205397050.xml
Four Cornerstone University students were caught stealing three dozen Kerry/Edwards signs off lawns in Grand Rapids and East Grand Rapids early Thursday.

The homeowner who nabbed them in the act was hailed as a hero at the local Kerry/Edwards headquarters when he dropped off the pile of recovered signs.

"It felt good to know they're not going to be pitched in the garbage," said Scott Hammontree, 31, a Kerry supporter. "Hopefully, people can reclaim them and put them back up."

The Kerry campaign office has taken complaints from more than 2,000 people who have had signs stolen. Area Republicans say they have had more than 1,000 signs stolen. Both sides distributed more than 30,000 signs each.

"Finally, we caught one of them!" one Democratic volunteer yelled, shaking Hammontree's hand.

Local officials at the Kerry/Edwards office considered pressing charges but dropped the idea when all four students showed up unannounced to apologize.

"Apparently, the students aren't being educated on freedom of speech and civil rights or constitutional rights," said Ida DeHaas, the Democrats' 3rd Congressional District chairwoman. "Everybody has a right to put out yard signs and have different opinions. Too many signs are being stolen."

Judy Thocher, the mother of the driver -- Cornerstone student Benjamin Thocher, 19, -- said by phone from Minnesota that she was not happy when he told her of his escapade.

"He's never done anything like this and should know better," said Thocher, whose family moved from Hart to a small town 50 miles north of Minneapolis a year ago. "He'll be home next week and his father will have a talk with him. He needs to live up to what he did. It's just not the way he was raised."

Benjamin Thocher could not be reached for comment.

Cornerstone University is a conservative Christian college that hosted President Bush as a candidate in 2000.

Hammontree, who is general manager of a downtown nightclub, was settling into bed after a long night of politics early Thursday, watching post-debate TV coverage.

Around 2 a.m., his wife, Kelly, heard rustling noises in their front yard on Griggs Street SE in Grand Rapids.

They saw a group of young men running off with their Kerry/Edwards yard sign.

Hammontree gave chase and caught the thieves, who turned out to have several dozen other signs piled in the back of the SUV they were driving.

Hammontree initially just took back his sign, but when the suspects came back 10 minutes later to steal his neighbors' signs, he chased them down again, and called police on his cell phone.

"The more I watched them taking signs from all over the neighborhood, the more irate I got," he said.

Police stopped the students on Plymouth Avenue and Burton Street at 2:30 a.m. Police ordered them to return the signs to Hammontree and warned them they would be arrested if caught again.

The students were not charged with a crime.

Under city ordinance, they could have been cited for taking property not their own, which is punishable by a fine.

Police would not release the names of the students.

According to the police report, the students described themselves as "bored, and were out taking John Kerry signs from various yards. (The driver) said they had no particular plan but were going to take them back to the dorms and show them off."

An official with Cornerstone University, which started its fall break Thursday, said he could "neither confirm nor deny" the young men in question are students there.

Spokesman Alan Blanchard said if the sign thieves are students, any punishment from the school would be dealt with privately.

This is pretty OT (a bad start for my first post. haha.) but what's the point of the signs? Like the bumper stickers that say "Support Our Troops." It's not as if the bumper sticker or sign is going to encourage anyone else to action.

Put ten back up in it's place. I've been watching for vandals. Keep and eye out. Probably kids acting out their parent's hatred. No wait, that would mean my kids would be out burning Bush signs.

Also, consider spreading dog sh!t along the edges of the sign. AND film it. Now THAT would be justice.

How about 5?

How about stringing a wire on the frame and placing a yellow sticker on the sign "Caution: Electrofied - may cause electrocution!" (of course, don't plug the wire up...just run it)!

I don't put signs on my yard or bumper stickers on my car exactly for stuff like this. It's just begging for the loonies on the fringe of either partty to come and vandalize something of yours.

I had some problems with city workers removing my signs, Republican ones by the way, during the primary season. Raised hell, got that cleared up. Well it happened again last week. I came home one day and every Bush sign on the street was gone, the 2 Kerry signs people in the neighborhood had were still there. While I was outside my neighbor came over and said he saw city crews out taking down the signs.

I called the City Manager and started raising hell. He said he wanted to check into things and would call me back. About 30 minutes later he called and said they were removed due to them being too close the the street. I told him that was BS and I had pictures to prove that my signs were the required distance from the street, learned to do that after the primary season mess. Also told him that the Kerry signs down the street were still there and that they were right on the curb. Went down and took pictures of them and their location. Called the City Manager back, told him that if all the Bush signs which had been removed did not reappear that I would 1. Be calling all the local news stations and newspapers to show them my pictures. 2. I would be calling the local Republican leadership. 3. I would be hiring an attorney and suing the city for tresspassing.

The next day my signs, as well as everyone else who had them in my neighborhood, had been returned.

Again, I'm confused why neocons are complaining about violence (including theft) happening to them. They firmly believe in agressing others to further political goals (Iraq war for example). Why is it suddenly bad when it happens to them?

Why do you insist on calling all Bush supporters neocons? We're not.

Neoconservatism (United States)

Neoconservatism is a somewhat controversial term referring to the political goals and ideology of the "new conservatives" in the United States.

Compared to other U.S. conservatives, neoconservatives are characterized by an aggressive stance on foreign policy, a lesser social conservatism, and lesser dedication to a policy of minimal government. The "newness" refers either to being new to American conservatism (often coming from liberal or socialist backgrounds) or to being part of a "new wave" of conservative thought and political organization.

I'm sure there were. I seem to have a hate/hate relationship with them.

My house sits on top of a hill overlooking a lake, the lot is pretty large and is sort of an odd shape so that I more of less have 5 separate yards. The back yard is terraced, and there is a large portion that lies outside my fence behind the house. There is also a large side yard to the South where I have several fruit trees planted, of course there is the front yard, and there is the yard on the North side of the house as well. Why do I tell you all of this??

Well.....back in late September I came home from work one day, changed clothes, and was going outside to play soccer with our newest dog, she absolutely loves soccer. We had been playing for about 10 minutes when I hit a shot that went over the back yard fence. I went after it and when I got behind the fence I saw that a large portion of the lower part of my property was covered about 3 feet deep in tree branches. I immediately looked up thinking that the power company had been out trimming my trees off the lines. Nope....I look at the branches closer and notice that they are not oak, which is what is in my back yard along with a few pine trees. So anyway I'm standing there dumbfounded wondering where in the hell these branches came from and what the fvck I'm going to do with them. That is when my neighbor to the South comes over. He tells me that he had been doing a ride along with the police and heard a call come across that a truck had lost a load of branches in the middle of the street that goes down the hill towards the lake. That street runs on the North side of my property. He tells me that the cop he was with radioed a city crew to come pick the trees up out of the street and haul them away. Well....they did come get them out of the street....and they piled them over the lower portion of my yard. What is the big deal? Well to do that they had to walk across the entire North side of my yard, dragging these trees all the way. Why would they do that? I dunno. Anyway my neighbor tells me that when he got home and saw what they had done he called the city street department and told them what had happened. They said they would be right out to remove the limbs, this was at approx 3pm. It was now a little after 6. My neighbor could tell I was not happy about this at all. Not only had they piled this crap in my yard instead of removing it, they had dragged them across part of my yard and had torn up the grass(hadn't noticed since I come in from work another way), and had also managed to cover up 24 azalea bushes that I have planted along the bottom of the retaining wall. Of course by this time the city is shut down for the day....

The next morning I call before work and talk to someone in the street department. I let them know what is going on and that I am not happy about it. They tell me they will send a crew out ASAP to clear the brush. I come home for lunch a little after noon, the brush is still there. I again call the city and they tell me a crew is on the way. I get home from work a little after 5, the brush is still there. I call and get someone in the street department. They tell me a crew had been out and picked it up, I tell them I'm standing looking at the brush while talking to them. They say they will check into it. I never hear anything back that night. The next morning I call the street department, I'm told again that a crew is on the way. I tell them that I am coming home at lunch and if the brush is still there I'm hiring someone to come remove it and haul it to City Hall and dump it on the front steps. I come home at lunch; there is a crew there removing the brush, and walking all over my azaleas. I go out and tell them to be more careful. My neighbor says he will keep an eye on things so I go back to work. I come home that evening, check things out, several of my azaleas are destroyed and the northern part of my yard looks like sh1t, they had decided to use it as a parking lot apparently.

My neighbor sees me outside and comes over to tell me he has already made some calls about the destroyed azaleas and the ruts in my yard. By the way my neighbor just happens to be the ex 2 term mayor of the city. He tells me he talked to the City Manager and told him everything that was going on, that I wasn't happy, and that something needed to be done to make it right.

The next day when I come home from work there is a message on the machine from the City Manager. He tells me to go out and buy replacement azaleas and to send him the bill. He also tells me a city crew will be out to repair the damage to my yard where the trucks drove across and parked.

In the end everything worked out......that being said the whole damn situation could have been avoided if the city road crew that first removed the brush hadn't decided to drag it across my yard and try to hide it behind the fence. I firmly believe they did this because of the incident earlier when I busted their chops for removing my political signs before the primary election.

Yes I did. As a matter fact out the 100-150 homes I passed, I seen about 30-40 Kerry/Edwards signs. I did not see one and mean not one Bush sign.
