Bush Talks to Troops in Iraq

While polls show declining support for the war, Bush told the soldiers: "You've got to know, the American people are standing strong with you," Bush said.

The exchange was carefully choreographed.

Before it began, a Pentagon official coached the troops, telling them the president planned to ask questions on three topics: The overall security in Iraq, how they were preparing for the vote on Saturday and how much progress had been made in the training of Iraqi troops.

Allison Barber, a Pentagon official, said Bush would ask them specifically, "In the last 10 months, what kind of progress have we seen?"

She asked who was prepared to answer the question. "Master Sgt. Lombardo," one said.

After Bush asked just that question, Master Sgt. Corine Lombardo (search) responded: "Over the past 10 months, the capabilities of the Iraqi security forces are improving ... They continue to develop and grow into a sustainable force."

You know you're bad when even Fox stops spinning for you.

An impartial news service is a good news service. Don't accept a spin, read/watch multiple sources to get an idea of the true story.

If a reporter is killed, accept that the perpetrator does not wish any reporting and is therefore going outside accepted protocol(I think it's at least 48 reporters killed by US troops in Iraq).

actually, in the previous election both parties had their questions choreograph and rehearse before live television.
It's been done many times.
And During the election the publican party even made banners (the one's that look like they were homemade) for their supporters.
to show off while live television was rolling.

MSNBC > Fox and CNN

I can't believe MSNBC gets killed in the ratings by both CNN and Fox. Isn't MSNBC carried by all the cable companies? MSNBC does the same talk/opinion (but less opinionated) format as Fox does, and IMO Hardball is probably the best of the shows on all the networks, yet 10x as many people tune in to see O'Reilly and Hannity yell at a camera for an hour a piece.

Fox and CNN are usually part of basic service (cheapest package) that cable companies offer. MSNBC is usually part of the 2nd tier or some upgrade cable package.

Studies have shown the media to be largely liberal, so I wouldnt say Fox was spinning anything.

But the moderators on MSNBC use three-syllable words - an immediate channel-change for the sheeple.

What kind of ignorance is this? Do you really believe that? :frown:

I remember a time when people that thought differently actually respected each others intelligence at the least. Most people don't bother forming political opinions in the first place. Frankly, I'm a bit insulted by the assumption you've made.

Of course. They not only believe it, they feel some absurd compulsion to parrot it.

I'm not assuming anything. I believe there are intelligent, well-informed people who prefer to watch Fox news and/or who are politically conservative.

However, I also believe that the average fan of Fox news is demonstrably less well informed than the average American. I'm sure you recall that poll that asked questions such as:

Have WMDs been found in Iraq?

Did Saddam play a role in the 9/11 attacks?

There were a few other questions of a similar nature. The average score of those reporting Fox as their main news source was significantly lower than that of viewers of the news of other networks.

You can hypothesize any way you want about the cause of the above result, but the bottom line is that Fox news viewers are clueless.

Heh. Your logic is flawed.

Could it be, perhaps, that the scores varied depending on the source(s) used for these people to acquire their news?

There is a great liberal bias in media, no point trying to deny that. I don't see how you could be surprised that one who watches BBC and reads the NY Times daily would have a different overall view than one who watches Fox News and reads USA Today, for example.

If you want to argue that both of those hypothetical people are sheep (because they acquire their news from such a limited pool) I'd agree.
