Canceled the order for the moment, might gor for an evga 7900gtx instead.

I ordered one on Sat., and according to Newegg it has shipped. Someone here posted a link for the card and it seems that they are out of them now. So, these cards are selling.

I have a 19" Veiwsonic LCD display with native rez. of 12x10. So, I doubt I'll ever tax the card.

mine is a 20.1 samsung lcd 16x12, so it's a little more taxing I guess.

Runs hot as balls, like most passively-cooled GPUs, so the lifespan will probably be short. If you upgrade every six months anyway that won't be an issue but for folks looking for a longterm investment, like say inside an HTPC, they might want to consider something else.

Priced comparable to the Sapphire x1900xtx 512mb. Isn't the Sapphire a much faster card?

Yep.

That XFX looks cool but I'm betting people are going to be mounting a fan on/around it sooner or later. It's gonna run VERY hot, even with those heatpipes. Plus, it's the same price as a 1900XT /XTX in some cases.

but doesn't the 1900xt run very hot even WITH a fan? Reviews seem to say so..

The X1900 series definitely runs hot with a fan; the 7900 series also run hot, just a bit less than the X1900 series. The point is that with passive cooling it could very well run up into the 90's or 100's Celcius unless you have great case cooling.

I have seen benchies of 7950GT, probably at stock against 7900GT and 1900XT.

Consider it equal to or better than 1900XT without AA AF and even better at high res. it is better than 7900GT throughout. 1900XT wins ifg you use AA AF
It is obvious that 1900XT is better what to talk of 1900XTX

Why wouldn't you use AA (or at the very least, low AA and high AF)? Also, are you thinking of the X1900XT or X1900XT 256MB?

Sorry to burst your bubble, but this has been in stock on and off at Newegg for about 3-4 weeks now. No big deal though. Some other reviews on it say it runs quite hot, about 81C at load.

Wow, that's an outstanding temperature!
What kind of cooling do you run in your case?
I might get this instead of the eVGA one...

7950gt is a great performing card anyone interested in getting one.

I got the eVGA one at launch because of three free games and the step up plan.

If you are looking for specifically an Nvidia card, i would recommend the XFX version of this card!

I just this system together in a lanli PC-7B Plus II case:

Intel e6400
Abit Aw9d mobo
xfx 7950gt
Only cpu watercooled

My radiator is up front with a 120x38mm fan installed and it blows air over the xfx card too. I got the case on sale at newegg so it doesnt have the fancy side window but the stock left side of the case has holes so it can breathe around the videocard area.

I just o/ced it to 600/730 and played 40 mins of DOD:S recorded highest temp was 74c. I getting to like this card alot

I might take the hsf off and replace the thermal goo.. I bet they used thermal pads

Eh, i'm sticking with the eVGA one. My case won't be able to pull those temps off compared to yours.

FWIW mid to high 80's under load are still adequate temps and will not throttle or damage the card in any way.

Here's the XFX 7950GT that I purchased.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16814150188

Default clocks: 550/1400

3DMark06 (defaults) 5321
50C idle temp / 64C load while running 3DMark06

[*]Rig specs in sig

I'll run more benchies when time allows. So far I am extremely impressed with the cooling on this XFX. This is the main reason I went for this card instead of the 7900GTO. HDCP support is another nice feature when I want to hook up my projector.
