It is between the Panflow 80mm fans with 48CFM airflow and 30dBA

and the

SilenX fans that are at a much quieter 14dBA but only move 28CFM.

The Panflows cost 8 bucks each and the SilenX are 11. I am getting 4 80mm (2 front intake, 2 rear exhaust)

Which ones should I get!? Is the 20 more CFM worth the 16dBA? Or is 30 dBA barely noticable anyway. I don't need silence, but I want my machine cold!

I'd get the Panaflos and hook them up to a controller to dial in the right amount of noise\airflow for you.

30dB is noticeable! However I have heard questionable things about SilenX. I think I would buy the Panaflos and hook them up to a fan bus of some sort.

I also wouldn't trust them because of that whole fiasco where they said on their website not to buy from places like Newegg and SVC because they were selling Swiftech heatsinks? They must be smoking something because on the SilenX site they were selling obvious knockoffs of Zalman and Swifty heatsinks.

Panaflo is always trustworthy.

got a little too clicky and I accidently blank posted, I apologize.

The panaflo's don't come with connector tails. Some places will throw on 3 or 4 headers. Do you reccommend I get rubber grommets? Which fan controller is good?

I have a Lian Li PC-68
2 front intake
1 rear exhaust (im going to dremmel another one in there)
all are 80mm
what products do you suggest? Please be as detailed as possible, I appreciate it SOO much!

I'm getting (4) Panaflo 80mm Hydro Wave RPM Sensing High CFM Fans
2 AT 4 pin adapters (panaflo fans don?t have tails)
2 ATX 3 pin adapters
2 metal fan guards to replace crappy finger guards on back of case

do you recommend rubber grommets or fan pads?

Silenx is the best fan I have ever used as far as air flow vs noise they are much quieter than Panaflo fans. Many Panoflow fans make lots of noise when slowed down with a fan controler also it just depends on what version you get. Silenx is a great place to do business and I have never seen anything on their sight about not buying from Newegg. They do have another company trying to sell counterfit products under their name and say stuff about that though. I am very happy with the Silenx fans I have so take it from one that has acutually used both fans not like some of the other ansewers you got from people that are just going on hearsay.

Oh, that's the reason, a company called "Ahanix" was selling knockoff SilenX goods. It wasn't explained well in the original thread in OT. But SilenX was advising against buying from Newegg et al on their front page at the time. I apologize, I didn't look into it as I'd never heard of this company but folks around forums say the SilenX fans are very quiet, I may have to look into them myself. Thanks for setting me straight, Cosmo3

I find that they don't help that much, especially if you will slowing it down with a fan controller. I like the Sunbeam fan controllers myself. Cheap and can do more watts per channel than most other controllers. Unless the rubber grommets were dirt cheap, then I'd pass. But if it's only a few bucks, doesn't hurt to try and I doubt you'd miss the few bucks anyways

There.
Get those and a fan controller.

As far as noise, Panaflows have a low hum, not annoying, and Papst allegedly have very loud clicking.

Gromets work OK, but not that great. OTOH...
http://www.mcmaster.com
search for "pvc miniature fan mounts" or go to page 1220.
You'd have to measure the diameter and thickness for the holes on the fan. Most 80mm fans are the same, but I don't recall which dimensions they use, and know that some are odd.

Don't forget about connectors, that fan comes with bare wires.

OK, the tails, too, and/or buy the 3-pin version somewhere else .

You want your machine cold? I have the antec sonata with the stock 120mm fan in the rear and an additonal pabst 120 in the front. I took a drive out the other day and touched the main drive, both drives were cool to the touch. I've never felt a drive operate that cool before, in any case!

Those are the only two fans in the case, besides the hsf.

BTW, panaflo's can be had for much less than $8 per. I just got 10 for under $4 each. I don't have a place for them but I figure I'll be building systems for peeps again this year.
